News from NGSMIPS | National Conference on Pharmacovigilance & Outcomes Research

The Dept. of Pharmacy Practice, NGSMIPS in collaboration with the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) Student Chapter, organised a two-day National Conference on Pharmacovigilance & Outcomes Research (NCPOR) on 2nd & 3rd December 2022 at Avishkar Hall, ABSMIDS. The aim of the conference was to connect participants with multi-disciplinary experts in the field of Pharmacovigilance and to provide them a unique opportunity to learn about the most recent advancements, challenges and innovations in the field.

The conference received an overwhelming response with a grand total of 262 enthusiastic registrations from students, research scholars and staff from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Maharashtra, Bihar and Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Uday Venkat Mateti, Organising Secretary, NCPOR 2022, welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest and resource persons. Prof. (Dr.) CS Shastry,  Principal, NGSMIPS presented the opening remarks. He highlighted the theme and reiterated the significance of holding the conference. The Chief Guest of the event, Sri. Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor (Admn), Nitte University addressed the gathering emphasising on the importance of ensuring patient safety through quality use of medicines. Dr. Juno J. Joel, Convener, NCPOR 2022, delivered the vote of thanks at the culmination of the inaugural ceremony. During the two-day conference, seven scientific sessions were held on the theme of Ensuring patient safety through quality use of medicines.




DAY 1 SESSIONS - 2ND DECEMBER 2022
Dr. M Ramesh, Professor, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSS AHER, Mysuru, delivered an informative and interactive talk on causality assessment of adverse drug reactions, highlighting various theoretical and practical concepts related to adverse drug reaction reporting and assessment.


Dr. Rajendra Chandradas, Chief Executive Officer, Zenith Clinical Services, Bangalore provided an overview on clinical research and the various opportunities arising in the field.





Prof. (Dr.) Manthan D Janodia, Head, Dept. of Pharmacy Management, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, MAHE provided an overview of health economics and the arising opportunities in the field.


Thereafter, 10 oral presentations were conducted under the category of Patient Education and Drug Utilization Evaluation in Avishkar Hall and 9 oral presentations under the category of Pharmacovigilance in Trimshathi Bhavan. Each participant was allotted 10 minutes (7 minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for deliberation with the judges) for their presentation.

Dr. Nanjesh Kumar S, Head, Dept. of Community Medicine, KSHEMA and Dr. Jacintha Veigas, Professor and Clinical Coordinator, Dept.of Community Health Nursing, NUINS were the evaluators for the first session. The presentations of the second session were evaluated by Mr. Mackwin Kenwood D’Mello, Associate Professor, Dept. of Public Health, KSHEMA and Prof. (Dr.) Rajendra Holla, Head, Dept. of Pharmacology, KSHEMA.


Simultaneously, 30 e-Poster presentations were also held in two sessions (15 each) in Vimshathi Bhavan. Each participant was allotted 5 minutes (3 minutes for presentation + 2 minutes for deliberation with the judges). Session 1 was evaluated by Dr. Neetha Kamath, Assoc.Professor, Dept. of Community Health Nursing, NUINS and Session 2 by Dr. Ankeeta Jacob Menona, Assoc. Professor, Dept.of Community Medicine, KSHEMA.
