News from NICO | FDP on Qualitative Research Methodologies and their application in Humanities & Communications Research

An FDP on Qualitative Research Methodologies and their application in Humanities & Communications Research was organized by the Nitte Institute of Communication on 9th & 10th August 2023.

The objective of the FDP was to train participants on the various Qualitative Research Methodologies namely - Semiotics, Discourse, Deconstruction & Psychoanalysis and how to apply these methods to analyse cultural products such as advertisements, cinema, literature etc.

The facilitator, Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq, Asst. Professor, Manipal Centre for Humanities discussed each concept systematically. His command over the subject matter and his research papers helped participants understand how to go ahead and write research papers.

 





News from NICO | Interactive session with alumnus, Albert Anthony

An interactive session was conducted with alumnus, Albert Anthony at the Institute premises on 29th August 2023. Albert who belonged to the BA 2016-19 batch, is now working as Assistant Director / Director of Photography in Mumbai.

Speaking to students, he said the best way to get into the film industry was by working on your portfolio & making sure you have some good work to show filmmakers. It could be something as simple as a short video or reel made for Instagram, a well shot set of pictures, or even a well-made assignment. He encouraged them to help each other build portfolios and work in each other’s projects. “The film industry is always on the lookout for talent and if you are willing to work hard and be on your toes, there is nothing that could stop you”, he said.

The interactive session was followed by a Question & Answer session where students wanted to know how it was working with celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon or Sara Ali Khan, all of whom he has worked with at different times. He also shared with students his contact details and promised to help them with internships & projects.






News from NICO | Talk and film screening on the occasion of Geneva Conventions Day

The Youth Red Cross Units of Nitte Institute of Communication and Nitte Institute of Architecture organised a talk and a film screening on the occasion of Geneva Conventions Day, 12th August 2023.

Speaker, Dr. K Sankaran, Former Director & currently Advisor, Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte spoke of the horrors of war and how the discourse of war is an important discussion on this day. The Geneva Conventions are a series of international treaties on the treatment of civilians, prisoners of war (POW) and soldiers who are otherwise rendered incapable of fighting.

The talk was followed by a Question & Answer session. A small exhibition of paintings was also organised in the quadrangle.

The formal function was followed by the screening of the Japanese animation movie - Grave of the Fireflies (1988), considered to be one of the greatest war films of all times and a major work in Japanese animation.







News from KSHEMA | Medical Camp

The Department of Community Medicine, KSHEMA organized a Medical Camp on 24th August 2023 at Govt Higher Primary School, Mundkur. The program was coordinated by Dr. Prasanth, Medical Officer, Mundkur Rural Health Centre, Mr. Rangaswami (Headmaster Govt Higher Primary School), Mr. Santhosh NP (MSW) along with the help of interns - Mr. Gokul, Mr. Harikrishnan & Ms. Hridhya C.

Health check-up for 93 students was done and those diagnosed with health conditions were referred to the Health Centers. Students diagnosed with anemia clinically, were provided with Vitamin B complex and iron tablets. Students were advised to undergo regular follow-ups.





News from KSHEMA | Outreach Program on Immunization

The Department of Community Medicine conducted an Outreach Program on Immunization, as per the National Immunization Schedule, on 23rd August 2023 at the Urban Health & Training Centre, Kadri with the support of Bejai Government Urban Health Centre. A total of 10 children were immunized. The mother of these immunized children were informed about the benefits and adverse effects of the vaccines given and the date of their next doses.

This program was organized by the Department of Community Medicine with the support of Dr. Raksha (Medical Officer), Mr. Santhosh NP (Medical Social Worker), Ms. Gowthami and Ms. Bharathi (ANM, Bejai Government UHC), Ms. Prabha (Asha Worker Bejai UHC), Staff Nurse Vilma, Ms. Navya (Lab Technician) and Interns - Dr. Jayant Yadav & Dr. Jeevan S.

Happy to announce that the NMAMIT Girls Chess Team emerged Champions while the Boys team won the Third Prize in the VTU Rest of Bangalore Zone Chess Championship held at SJMIT Chitradurga from 10th to 12th August 2023.

News from KSHEMA | Health camp

The Department of Community Medicine, K.S Hegde Medical Academy organized a one-day health camp for the people residing in Ira village on 18th May 2023 at Govt Higher Primary School, Ira, Balepuni with the support of the Rural Health & Training Centre (RHTC), Ira.

The camp aimed to screen the residents of Ira, for Hypertension and Diabetes and to spread awareness regarding the same. Patients were registered and sent for checking their blood pressure, GRBS and weight. They were informed to seek health advice from the RHTC, Ira and were made aware that the check-ups along with medications were free of cost at the Center.

A total of 18 patients visited the centre, out of which 6 were known cases of Hypertension and 4 were known cases of Diabetes. The patients were educated about the dietary modifications and were advised to get regular blood pressure check-ups and Diabetes follow up at RHTC, Ira.






News from NSAMEMHS | First place in CRICKET Quiz competition

Two teams of Dr. NSAM English Medium High School participated in the CRICKET Quiz competition organised jointly by Tennisball Cricket Association, Udupi and MAHE at TMA Pai Hall, Manipal on the occasion of National Sports Day.

Ashlesha Prabhu and Varshith Gowda of Class 7, bagged the First place in the Junior category.

News from NIPT | Orientation Program

The Orientation Program for undergraduate & postgraduate students of physiotherapy was held at K.S Hegde Auditorium on 1st August 2023. 

Mr N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte University and Presiding Officer of the event, spoke of the importance of education in a person's life.  Guest of Honor, Prof. (Dr) Amitesh Narayan, Dept. of Physiotherapy, KMC Mangalore, spoke of the challenges in Physiotherapy and wished the freshers luck, as they began their course. 

Prof (Dr) M S Moodithaya, Vice-Chancellor, motivated the students with his inspiring words. Prof (Dr) Dhanesh Kumar, Principal, NIPT welcomed the gathering. Ms Abheeshna Ashok, Convenor, proposed the vote of thanks. 

The Orientation program continued in the afternoon where rules and regulations, code of conduct, mentorship program and curriculum were discussed with the students and parents.




 


News from NIPT| Awareness session, Anveshan 2023

Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy conducted an awareness session, Anveshan 2023 for faculty, postgraduates, interns and undergraduates on 12th August 2023. Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, Advisor (Research & Patents), Nitte DU, explained in detail the registration process of Anveshan. He also shared examples of ideas and start-ups in Physiotherapy. 

Prof. (Dr) Indrani Karunasagar, Director (Projects & NuTEC), Nitte DU also shed light on the importance of research and motivated the faculty & students. She also explained the support rendered by Nitte to young researchers and innovators. A lively Question & Answer session followed the talk. 

Prof. (Dr) Dhanesh Kumar K U, Principal welcomed the gathering. Prof. Rakesh Krishna Kovela, delivered the vote of thanks.







News from JKSHIM | Commencement of the 26th Batch of MBA program

The inaugural function of the Commencement of the 26th Batch of MBA program was held at JKSHIM on 28th August 2023 at 9.30 am.

Dr. Gopal Mugeraya, Vice-President (Technical Education), Nitte University was the Chief guest. Addressing the newly inducted management students he said, "MBA aspirants need to have a lot of focus & discipline to achieve success in career and life. An appetite for learning coupled with a positive attitude will enhance their personality".

Mr. Sajan Murali, CEO, Turtle Wax India Ltd and Alumni (1999-2001 MBA Batch) was the Guest of honour. He called upon the budding managers to equip themselves with warrior-like spirit, to face the real corporate challenges in the future.

Director of the Institute Dr. Gururaj H Kidiyoor, in his presidential address, stressed time sense and discipline as the virtues of leadership.

Ms. Nidhi rendered the prayer song. Prof. Saravanan delivered the welcome address. Dr. Sandhya Rao proposed the vote of thanks and Ms. Shravya compered the program.







News from NIHS | Visit to Mangalore international airport

Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) reaffirmed its commitment to aviation security with the Aviation Security Culture Week celebration that got underway on July 31. The celebration is in sync with the directive given by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to all stakeholders in the aviation industry to reinforce the idea that aviation security is everyone’s business. The celebration which consists of a series of activities, underscores the tagline - See It, Say It, Secure It.

To mark the event, the airport also conducted a mock drill under the aegis of CISF, simulating the crash of an aircraft carrying hazardous chemicals. Various State agencies participated in the drill to assess preparedness. The students of NIHS were active participants in this drill. Their role play included the role of passenger in the aircraft and as relatives, friends & family members of the affected passengers waiting at the arrival gate.

Students got a chance to be part of this exciting experiment and they interacted with officials from different departments of the Airport, airline staff, security staff, Police officers of different ranks, CISF and NDRF team members. Post debriefing by the CISF Chief, students were allowed to visit the Arrival and Departure terminals of the MIA and learnt about the Domestic and International passenger flying and arrival procedure.

Ms. Sanam, Aviation Management faculty arranged this particular activity for the students. 35 students along with 2 staff members took part in this activity.






News from NIHS | Orientation Program

A 6-day Orientation Program for the first year students of BSc (Honors) Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts & Management was conducted from 24th to 29th July 2023 at the College premises.

The program included talks by Hospitality experts and faculty of NIHS, where the freshers were given all information about the 2 programs, career opportunities and the rigors of the profession.

An awareness program on ‘Substance Abuse’ was conducted in the College on 26th July 2023 for the I & II year students. Mr. Shivakumar, Sub-Inspector of Police, Kankanady Police Station with the help of Ms. Bindu Rani, Counsellor, Link Addiction Centre conducted the program.







News from NIHS | Aatidonji Dina

The students of Nitte Institute of Hospitality Services (NIHS) hosted an event, ‘Aatidonji Dina’ on 15th July 2023 at the college. The event began with the ‘Nasik Band’ leaving the entire students and faculty grooving to the drum beats.

Various cultural games such as Bite the Tomato, Grating the coconut, Filling the bottle etc. were organized, followed by a formal function.

Prof. (Dr) Meenakshi Ramachandran from SDM Law College was the chief guest for the program. The formal function was followed by cultural performances such as Yakshagana, Folk dance & music which mainly included Mangalore’s popular ‘Pili Nalike’.

Delicious food prepared by the faculty & students which included a variety of Mangalore delicacies such as Pathrode, Gendedadye, Pelakaida Gatti, Moode, Kukkuda Rasa, Yetti chutney etc were served on banana leaf. The meal ended with a sweet Moongdal Payasam.

News from NMAMIT | NMAMIT's Finite Loop Club win the 'Most Innovative Approach' Award at NivHack 2023

A talented team named 't3-tribe' representing NMAMIT, including Nagaraj Pandith, Swasthik Shetty and Nidheesha T from the Dept. of CSE, won the Most Innovative Approach Award with a cash prize of Rs.10000/- at NivHack 2023, an intercollege Hackathon conducted on 26th & 27th August, 2023 by Niveus Solutions.

These students are the core members of the Finite Loop Club at NMAMIT, Nitte.




News from NUINS | The Orientation Program for the newly admitted students of BSc Nursing

The Orientation Program for the newly admitted students of BSc Nursing, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences was held on 1st August 2023 at the University Auditorium, Paneer campus Deralakatte. A total of 95 students and 190 parents attended the program.

The program began with a prayer invoking blessings from the almighty followed by lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Prof. (Dr) Fatima Dsilva, Principal, College of Nursing delivered the welcome address and introduced the guests to the gathering and also congratulated the students for joining the nursing program and explained the remarkable progress made by the institute since its inception. She emphasized the need to create an enjoyable and cooperative teaching-learning environment throughout the period of study.

Pro-Chancellor, Mr. Vishal Hegde, in his presidential remark, spoke about the genesis of the Nitte group of institutions. He said that nursing is one of the noblest professions and it is a skill-based profession that requires compassion, courage and empathy.

Mrs. Cleeta Pinto, Principal, School of Nursing delivered the vote of thanks. The program was compered by Ms. Sheryl Fernandes.










News from JKSHIM | The Silver Jubilee Alumni Meet 'Rajathaarush'

The Silver Jubilee Alumni Meet 'Rajathaarush' of Justice KS Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte was organized at the Institute as part of the Silver Jubilee celebration.

The founder Director of the Institute, Prof. (Dr.) M S Moodithaya, who is the present Vice-Chancellor of Nitte University, recalled his memories at the Institute. The student intake from 40 at the time of establishment, has now increased to 180. He also said that plans are being chalked out for the growth of the Nitte group of institutions.

Former Directors Prof. K Ramesh Karnik and Dr. K Sankaran also spoke about the successful journey of the Institute. Mr. Guruprashanth Bhat, Alumni Coordinator, welcomed the guests. Mr. Adithyaramana rendered a prayer. Dr. Gururaj H Kidiyoor, Director, JKSHIM highlighted alumni's role in the growth of the institute.

Prof. (Dr). Sudhir Raj K compered the program. Quiz, fun games and interactive sessions were organized as part of the Silver Jubilee Alumni Meet. Prof. (Dr) Sudhir M conducted the Annual General Body Meeting of the Alumni Association on the same occasion.

A cultural program, ‘Samagama’ was organized by Sr'jana, the Cultural Association of the Institute.
