News from NICO | Sensitisation Program on Ragging

The Anti Ragging Cell of Nitte Institute of Communication conducted a sensitisation program ‘Breaking Traditions’ to build awareness of the harmful effects of bullying, ragging or intimidation of any kind.

Counsellor Aditya Shetty Jnana of the Nitte Wellness Centre was the resource person. Assisting him was Arpith Indravadan, Social Media Coordinator for Nitte University.

Beginning with the meaning of the word ‘ragging’, the history of ragging and the types of ragging, Aditya went on to explain the legal implications of ragging. Ragging with the intention of causing harm is a punishable offence under the Indian Penal Code and can be punished with imprisonment, or a fine or both.

The two-hour event also saw some breaking the ice and team building activities which intended to bring all the three batches closer together.

The event ended with a hearty brunch, enjoyed by the students.
