News from ABSMIDS | Free Anti- tobacco awareness and dental treatment camp

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences in association with the Famous Youth Club Thokur, Yuva Karya Kreeda Sachivalaya, Rotary Club Baikampady, Priyadarshini Cooperative Society Haleyangadi, My Bharath Dakshina Kannada and Pooja Arrangers and Caterers Haleyangadi, conducted a free Anti- tobacco awareness and dental treatment camp for the general public at Famous Youth Club Office, Thokur on 29.06.2025 on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day-2025.

Dr. Shilpa M, Lecturer, Department of Public Health Dentistry, emphasized on the ill effects of tobacco and nicotine products, the influence of tobacco industry on children and measures to protect the general public from the ill effects of tobacco. A street play on Tobacco and its ill effects was performed by the Interns.

A total of 44 patients underwent screening during the camp. 29 patients underwent oral prophylaxis, 5 patients underwent GIC restorations, 2 patients underwent extractions and 25 patients were referred to the dental college as well as the nearby Mundkur and Talipady rural satellite centres for further treatment.
