News from NMIT | NMIT Students Clinch Top Honours at Statewide Innovation Showcase

At the 48th Series of the Student Project Programme (SPP), organised by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST), Government of Karnataka, students from Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), Bengaluru, a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru secured one of the event’s most prestigious accolades – the Best Project of the Year award. Held at Jawaharlal Nehru New College of Engineering (JNNCE), Shivamogga, the SPP provides a competitive platform for engineering students across Karnataka to present projects that address real-world, socially relevant challenges. Among hundreds of participants, the final-year Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) team from NMIT stood out for their exceptional work in biometric security. Their award-winning project, titled “Handcrafted Approaches for Contactless 3D Human Biometric Image Reconstruction for Secured Identification”, focuses on enhancing biometric identification systems through contactless 3D imaging. By applying advanced techniques such as 3D Gaussian and 3D Wiener filtering, the team achieved significant improvements in image clarity and computational efficiency, key factors for real-time applications. The project was developed by Mahesh Naik L, Manoj R and Medha K M under the mentorship of Ms G. Divya, Assistant Professor, ECE (NMIT), with co-guidance from Dr A S Mamatha of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte. Judges praised the work for its technical merit, innovative approach, and relevance to modern security systems. This recognition reinforces Nitte University’s commitment to research, innovation and student-led problem-solving.

Congratulations to the team for their outstanding achievement and for raising the bar in engineering excellence.
