News from NUCSER | From Notebooks to Journals: Insights into Scientific Manuscript Writing

A one-day workshop on “From Notebooks to Journals: Insights into Scientific Manuscript Writing” was held on 18th March 2026 at NUCSER to strengthen scientific writing skills among students, research scholars and faculty.

A series of informative and engaging sessions were handled by Prof. (Dr) Anirban Chakraborty, Dr. Biswajit Maiti and Dr. Juliet Mohan Raj.

Prof. Chakraborty gave an overview of the life cycle of a research publication, along with detailed insights into publication ethics and the importance of indexing databases in enhancing research visibility and credibility. Dr. Juliet Mohan Raj discussed the types of scientific writing, elaborated on the structure of a scientific manuscript and guided participants on effective journal selection strategies. Dr. Biswajit Maiti focused on practical aspects of manuscript preparation, including table and figure preparation, reference management and key principles of scientific writing. The sessions collectively emphasised clarity, organisation and ethical practices in scientific communication.

The workshop was interactive throughout, with participants actively engaging in discussions and clarifying their queries related to manuscript preparation and publication processes. The workshop concluded with a quiz session to assess participants’ understanding, followed by prize distribution to the winners.
