News from KSHEMA | CME on Gastroenterology & Interventional Radiology

The Department of Gastroenterology, Nitte Centre for Digestive Disorders, Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital organized a Continuing Medical Education program on “Gastroenterology & Interventional Radiology” on 10th May 2026. The CME focused on “Bridging the Barriers in Management” and aimed to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of healthcare professionals in advanced gastroenterology and interventional radiology procedures.

Dr. Chandrashekar Sorake, HoD & Sr. Consultant, Gastroenterology, Justice KS Hegde Hospital, Mangaluru, delivered a session highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in managing complex gastrointestinal disorders and the need for continuing medical education to keep pace with evolving therapeutic techniques.

A key academic session on “Tips and Tricks in Gastric ESD” was delivered by Dr. Mahesh Menon, Sr. Consultant & Gastroenterologist, Aster MIMS, Kerala who shared valuable insights into Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), including procedural techniques and complication management.

Dr. Vijay Kubihal, Consultant Interventional Radiologist, Justice KS Hegde Hospital delivered a lecture on “Management of Gastric Varices: An Interventional Radiologist’s Perspective,” emphasizing the role of interventional radiology in the management of portal hypertension and gastric varices.

The CME concluded with continued live case demonstrations followed by closing remarks. The workshop served as an excellent academic platform for knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary learning among gastroenterologists, radiologists, postgraduates and healthcare professionals.
