The Departments of Public Health Dentistry and Oral Medicine & Radiology, ABSMIDS in association with Femura Pharmaceuticals conducted a CDE program and workshop on “Novel Tobacco Products: Unmasking Appeal, Strengthening Cessation” on 12th June 2026 at Trimshathi Bhavan.
The resource person was Dr. Akshatha Gadiyar, Reader, Public Health Dentistry, Goa Dental College, Goa. Prof. (Dr.) Mithra N. Hegde, Principal inaugurated the workshop and emphasized the importance of tobacco cessation. Dr. Shilpa M. welcomed the resource person and the delegates and Dr. Supriya Bhat delivered the vote of thanks.
The lecture topics included - An overview of tobacco use & emerging trends; Marketing strategies and youth targeting; Tobacco cessation counselling - existing challenges and the way forward and Counselling skills, hands-on training including motivational interviewing, case discussions and role play. Post-lunch, the resource person conducted an interactive session with the postgraduates.
Approximately 107 delegates comprising postgraduates and III BDS students, as well as faculty from ABSMIDS & neighbouring colleges participated in the workshop.
Faculty members Dr. Shilpa M & Dr. Supriya Bhat coordinated the program and Dr. Gagan MG compered the event.
