News from NGSMIPS | Certificate Course on Drug Design Strategies (DDS)

NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences conducted an Offline Certificate Course on Drug Design Strategies (DDS) at its CADD Lab facility from 12th to 17th January 2026 which included Hands-on Training with different interfaces of CADD software Schrodinger, such as Glide and QikProp. A total of 11 participants registered for the Certificate Course.

On Day 1, Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Course Coordinator began the session with an introduction to Computer-Aided Drug Design, followed by an overview of relevant web-based resources. The session also included hands-on training on the advanced graphical user interface Maestro, enabling participants to familiarize themselves with the software environment. The other sessions were conducted by Ms. Zakiya Fathima C, Ms. Sindhu T J and Ms. Ranjitha.

The second day focused on molecular docking by Dr. Jainey P James; protein minimization and grid generation by Ms. Zakiya Fathima C, providing participants with a strong foundation in structure-based drug design. This was followed by practical sessions on protein preparation and application-based tasks. These sessions were handled by Ms. Anusha S.

On the third day, participants were trained in ligand preparation by Dr. Mahendra and target selection, evaluation of binding energy & docking score analysis by Ms. Nanditha A. The afternoon session provided hands-on training using Glide for molecular docking. These sessions were handled by Ms Nanditha and Ms Ranjitha.

The fourth day sessions emphasized ADMET properties and drug-likeness evaluation, with demonstrations and hands-on training using the QikProp module. These sessions were conducted by Ms. Deepthi K and Ms. Zakiya Fathima.

The last day of the course was dedicated to practice sessions, addressing participants’ course-related queries and the final assessment, allowing learners to consolidate their knowledge and skills. The sessions were guided by Dr. Pankaj Kumar and Dr. Jainey P James.
