News from NGSMIPS | A one-day conference titled “IPR for Business Success”

A one-day conference titled “IPR for Business Success”, focusing on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and startups, was successfully conducted on 6th February 2026 to create awareness about the importance of Intellectual Property Rights in fostering innovation, protecting business ideas and supporting sustainable business growth. A total of 101 participants attended the session.

Dr. Anoop Narayanan V, Convener of the program introduced the resource person Mr. Vijaykumar Shivpuje, Director of Patlex Business Solutions, Co-founder of Pharma Literati and Honorary Advisor to ASSOCHAM.

Dr. C S Shastry, Director, NGSMIPS delivered a brief address on Intellectual Property Rights, emphasizing the growing importance of IPR in the present innovation-driven economy. He highlighted the role of IPR in protecting innovations and safeguarding intellectual assets.

The technical sessions were conducted by Mr. Vijaykumar Shivpuje in four phases. Session I focused on introducing participants to the fundamentals of Intellectual Property Rights. The topics included an overview of IPR and its various types such as Trademarks, Geographical Indications, Copyrights, Industrial Designs and Patents. After a detailed discussion on the basics of patent filing, the resource person addressed the queries raised by the participants. Session II primarily focused on patenting in the pharmaceutical sector, patent rights and the relevance of IPR in the pharmaceutical industry. The speaker discussed career prospects in the IPR domain, highlighting various companies that hire pharmacists for roles related to patents, regulatory affairs and intellectual property management.

Session III focused on career opportunities in IPR and entrepreneurship. Mr. Shivpuje elaborated on how students and professionals can build successful careers in the IPR field and encouraged participants to explore entrepreneurial opportunities by effectively leveraging innovation and intellectual assets.







Session IV covered topics related to best practices in innovation, incubation, startup development and the strategic role of IPR in startups. The session emphasized how effective intellectual property management can support innovation, attract investments and ensure sustainable and long-term business success.

The conference served as a valuable platform for participants to gain comprehensive knowledge of IPR and its practical applications.
