Dept. of Community Health Nursing, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, Constituent College of NITTE University and 2nd Year B.Sc (N) students organized a Mass Awareness Program on Road Traffic Accidents, dated 25-02-2014 at Beeri Junction ,Kotekar, Mangalore.The programme started with a Walkathon by the 2nd Yr B.Sc Nursing students of the institution, followed by the awareness talk by Mr. MadavaBangera, A.S.I, Ullal Police Station and Mr. Yashavath, Secretary, Varshika Sri Ganesothshva Samithi. The Varshika Sri Ganesothshva Samithiof Beeri provided venue and other necessary support for the smooth functioning of the program. The program winded up with display of some videos related to the topic. A flex board showing importance of the awareness on road traffic accidents, handed over to Mr. Yashavath, Secretary ,Varshika Sri Ganesothshva Samithi.

of Public Health has won the National level Competitive bidding for
execution of Statewide Evaluation of Special Care Newborn Units
(SNCUs) in Karnataka under National Health Mission 2013-14. Our
experts’ teams comprising of public health specialists,
pediatricians and obstetricians would visit all the SNCUs in all
district hospitals and Government medical college hospitals in the
state to assess the newborn facilities thereby,
- provide a facility based strength and gap analysis with supportive supervision recommendations.
- assess the impact of the previous evaluation and action taken.
- review the current guidelines as against the field findings for guiding the operationalization.
This
activity would be executed with agreement between the Directorate of
Health & Family Welfare Services, Karnataka and K S Hegde Medical
Academy.

Dr. S.M. Manohari, Additional Professor, Department of Psychiatry, St. John’s Medical College & Hospital, Bangalore presented a topic on Eating Disorders-Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. Dr. Shekar Seshadri, Professor, Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, NIMHANS presented a topic on Ethics in Child Psychotherapy. Dr. Y.C. Janardhan Reddy, Professor, Department of Psychiatry, NIMHANS, Bangalore presented a topic on Childhood Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The programme also included a mock examination for Post graduate students in Psychiatry.
The Karnataka Medical Council has granted two credit hours for the CME. Dr. PSVN Sharma, Prof. & HoD , Department of Psychiatry , KMC, Manipal & Dr. Janaradhan Reddy explained the examination techniques. Dr. Shishir Kumar, Asst. Professor, Department of Psychiatry., KSHEMA, explained the Critical Challenges in Examination. Dr. Satheesh Rao, Prof. & HoD, Department of Psychiatry, KSHEMA gave concluding remarks. In the meanwhile the National Level Psychiatry Quiz winners of our college students Rahul Rao and Atul Kamath were honoured by Department of Psychiatry , KSHEMA and M.P.S. 115 Delegates from all over Karnataka were benefited by this programme.

A free dental treatment and Oral cancer screening camp was conducted by Vedam Ayurvedic Hospital, Pandeshwar in association with A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of dental sciences, Mangalore at Sri.Bharathi College, Nanthoor, on 09.02.2014 (Sunday). pharmaceutical industry - The Regulatory Affairs. He alerted that as opposed to the general perception
a sound knowledge of the subject was mandatory not just to the students of Regulatory affairs but to
students of all branches of pharmacy, since the process of regulations starts at the product conception
stage and persists through all the stages until it reaches the market for therapeutic dispensing. In

Nitte institute of physiotherapy upgraded the clinical facility at justice k s hegde charitable hospital, outpatient physiotherapy department. On occasion of it Ganahoma and Dhanvanthari homa was conducted on February 01st, Saturday morning 8 am to 11 am.

Presently the new physiotherapy department is upgraded with 5600 sq feet area, with separate independent unit of paediatric physiotherapy, exercise physiology, Advanced Hand rehabilitation unit ,extended Electrotherapy department, Laser therapy unit, Cold pack unit and many other clinical infrastructure implemented for patient comfort and safety.

“KARUNYA; HELPING HAND FOR DISABLED “ - NITTE INSTITUTE OF PHYSIOTHERAPY
Nitte institute of physiotherapy, Nitte university, Teaching faculty’s have started voluntary unit named “Karunya” (Helping hand for the disabled) with objective of bringing considerate approach to poor patients and by giving them reassurance in their extended rehabilitation pro grammes. As beginning of this unit on February 01st Saturday unit distributed fruits to all poor patients of Medicine ward and paediatrics ward which was Inaugurated by Dr Prakash, HOD, Dept of Medicine K S Hegde medical academy.
The unit also donated foldable walker to one of the deserving patient of Medicine ward as a part of extended rehabilitation home programme and advanced training, which was Inaugurated by Prof Dr Rajshekar, Director curriculum development cell Nitte University. This unit named Karunya the Brain child of physiotherapy teaching faculty’s run by their own voluntary contribution Monthly identifying one patient and donating the assistive device in need.

Go Green Girls at JUSTICE K S HEGDE INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT

total of 14 members of Women Adventure Network of India (WANI) who
are on cycle expedition from Katch to Kerala visited the Institute on

February, 2014. Addressing the MBA students and faculty members of
the Institute, Mrs. Smitha Srinivasan, Team Leader, observed that
cycle expedition have made them courageous, bold and adventurous.
She
gave a call to girls that they should not lag behind in understanding
adventurous activities like mountaineering and camel riding in
deserts. Narrating their experiences across the states, Mrs. Smitha
lamented that roads in Gujarath, Maharashtra and Goa are clean, being
free from garbages. She applauded the green and clean environment of
Nitte Institutions. The adventurous activity of WANI are encouraged
by only private and corporate sources. Dr. K. Sankaran, Director of
the Institute presided over the function. Commander Ramachandra
briefed the agenda and mission of the Go Green Girls. The faculty
members and students of the Institute participated in the

January 2014. PTA President Rtn. Raja Patrao hoisted the National
Flag. Students performed mass drill and entertained the gathering by
dancing to the tune of patriotic songs. Master Pranava Swaropa of
class VIII and Mrs. Sushma J Karakada , Asst. Teacher spoke on the
importance of the Day. The ‘Water
Conservation’
Awareness Programme by the students of class V was launched to mark
the 65th
Republic Day celebrations. On this occasion, students took the
‘Pledge for an Abuse Free World for Children’ issued by the CBSE
to make them aware of their rights, duties and responsibilities.
Master
Santanu of class VIII compered the programme. Master Arbaz of class
VIII welcomed and Rafa Sultana of class VII delivered the vote of

Dept.of Community Health Nursing, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, Constituent College of Nitte University along with 4th year BSc nursing students organized a CNE on “Palliative care”,dated 18-1-2014.
Dr. Naveen Rodrigus, Palliative Care Specialist, Yenapoya Medical College,Yenapoya University was the resource person. He dealt about the functions, objectives, principles and d different aspects of palliative care. Students of 4th year BSc Nursing, 3rd year BSc Nursing and 3rd diploma students ,a total of 150 students were benefited with the programme.

WORKSHOP & HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE ON PREPARATION OF SPECIFICATION TABLE
Dept. of Community Health Nursing, Nitte Usha institute of Nursing Sciences, Constituent College of Nitte University organized a Workshop & Hands on experience on Preparation of Specification Table on 27-01-2014.
Prof. (Dr.) Mamatha S. Pai Dept.of Child Health Nursing, Manipal Collage of Nursing, Manipal University was the resource person. There was a lecture on preparation of Specification table, followed by practice session. All Post Graduate faculties of the institution actively participated in the workshop.
REPORT ON MASS HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMME ON ANAEMIA IN PREGNANCY HELD ON 25-1-14
Department of Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing conducted a mass health education on the
topic “Anaemia in Pregnancy” on 25-1-14 in Justice K.S Hegde charitable hospital, OBG ward.
The program was organized by IV B.Sc nursing students under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Mrs.
Philomena Fernandes, HOD OBG department and Mrs. Muriel , Asst. Lecturer.
The program began at 10.45am with the prayer song followed by welcome speech by Ms. Wilma. A Role play was enacted on the topic and more information was given with the help of power point presentation. Video clippings were shown on causes, types, treatment and its prevention. Around 30 mothers from the antenatal and postnatal ward had attended the program. The program was interactive and effective; doubts raised by the audience were cleared. The program was appreciated by the participants and the staff nurses present for the program.

January, 2014. Dr. Naveen Chandra Shetty, Director, Nitte Psychiatry
Centre and Dr. K. Sankaran, Director of the Institute were present on
the occasion.
