World Blood Donor Day was celebrated on 14/6/2014 promoting the WHO theme ‘Safe blood for saving mothers”. The program was well organized by joint efforts of Department of Pathology and NSS unit of KSHEMA and Blood Bank, Justice K.S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte. The blood donation drive organized by NSS unit of KSHEMA showed an overwhelming response with 32 donors donating on the same day and 75 registered for future donation in the Sanjeevini registry by N.S.S unit which was inaugurated by the Dean, KSHEMA at the stage program.
The stage program started at 11.30am in the seminar room, PG block. The NSS coordinators of KSHEMA Dr. Sumalatha, Dr.Sanjeev Bedegere and Dr.Pratik organized the program and the role of NSS in blood donation was explained by Dr.Sumalatha at the beginning of the program. This was followed by a brief talk by Dr. Chandrika, Blood Bank Officer who traced the history of blood donation and highlighted the WHO theme. 25 posters for poster competition from different sections of the campus highlighted the need for awareness of voluntary donation. The panel of judges was honored by Registrar and HOD pathology. The competition was very close leading to two teams sharing the second prize in post graduate medical and non teaching staff categories. One of the highlights of the program was felicitation of Mr. Venkataraj Rai, who donated blood 26 times so far. After prize distribution by Vice Deans, KSHEMA, the program ended with vote of thanks from Dr. Sanjeev Bedigere from N.S S unit.
