Guest lecture - Kshema
Medical Education Unit of K S Hegde Medical Academy in association with departments of ENT, Surgery & Oncosurgery arranged guest lectures by Dr Shashi Prasad, Head & Neck Surgeon on research into Immunotherapy for Head and Neck Cancers and Dr Asma Sultana, GI Surgeon on management of pancreatic disease on 9th April 2015 from 2.30 PM to 3.30 PM, at Lecture hall 5, 3rd floor, College.
Dr Rashmi, Professor of Community Medicine welcomed the gathering. Dr Bhagwan, Professor and Head, department of Surgery and Dr Rajeshwari, Professor & Head, dept of ENT, introduced the guest speakers to the audience. Dr Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Dean, KSHEMA, presented mementos to the speakers. Dr Sukanya Shetty, Professor & Head, dept of Biochemistry proposed the vote of thanks.
Teaching faculty, postgraduate and undergraduate students attended the guest lectures. It enriched the knowledge of the audience on Immunotherapy for head and neck cancers and management of pancreatic cancers. There was good interaction by the audience with the speakers.

Shortlisted for the 5 Year Direct PhD Program - NMAMIT
Mr. Nishanth has been shortlisted for the 5 Year Direct PhD Program in Power Electronics & Power Systems, at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai (IIT-Madras).
He has been called for a written test followed by an interview on the 14th of May 2015 at IIT-Madras.

Distribution of Study Material To SC & ST Students - ITI
On 23-04-2015, Distribution of Study Material Donated By Social Welfare Department, Government of Karnataka is organized in the seminar Hall of the institute . On behalf of Government, the Study Material is distributed by Smt Leela Bhanjan, Member, Gram Panachayath, Padapanambur. She addressed the gathering students must utilize these material and achieve great success in their life.

Mr S R Bansal, addressing gathering said, “Leadership is based upon first ‘walk and then talk’ philosophy. Leaders are observed by the people and their behavior should be model for others. A person who has sincerity as well as punctuality will lead from the front.” Adding to this he said younger generation is quick as well as smart, they have ability to think out of box however they lack common sense in many ways. Only by experience they can over by this lack, for that youth should have strong determination and dedication in their work”.

Manthan Business Competition organized by Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries - NMAMIT
In a business plan competition conducted by FKCCI final year information science and engineering student of NMAMIT Siddarth Pai has won 2nd Runner up with cash prize of 50,000Rupees
Report from : Siddarth Pai - Final year Information Science and Engineering, NMAMITManthan is an Initiative of FKCCI since 2009.The Enterprise development Technology & Innovation Committee of FKCCI is organizing this competition among the graduate and Post Graduate students in Karnataka to evaluate, recognize and reward the three best original, Commercially viable and Implementable business proposals.
The jury members evaluated our business plan and I was awarded as 2nd Runner UP in the event. Was also felicitated with 50,000 INR Cash Prize. In this business plan competition I had proposed the start-up of mine "Sahasranshu Technologies Inc." which is being incubated at Entrepreneur Development Cell at NMAM Institute of Technology,Nitte. The Company focuses on development and building of Cutting edge Technology to solve real world problems. We are currently building a "Underwater Unmanned Vehicle" which tracks movement of objects underwater and sends the data to the data centre and being simulated as graphical models in Mobile Tablets. The product mentioned can have multiple applications ranging from fishing, Oceanography, Petroleum Exploration , Defence and Monitoring Cleanliness of rivers such as Ganga . Has already received a seed funding of 6 Lakhs from KBITS for two projects. The start-up is projected to fetch annual revenue of 30Cr in next 5 Years and has potential to create 75-100 Jobs in the region.
I myself has been part of start-up community since past 2 years has attended numerous events across India related to entrepreneurship. Undergraduate Psychiatry Quiz - The Department of Psychiatry - Kshema
The Department of Psychiatry conducted Undergraduate Psychiatry Quiz for undergraduate medical students every year. This year it was held at the Lecturer Hall No. 6, 2nd Floor, Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte , Mangalore on Thursday 2nd April 2015.
Each team had two MBBS UG students. First three winning teams awarded cash prizes Rs. 2000/-, Rs. 1500/- and Rs.1000/- respectively and all the teams got participation certificates. The Quiz conducted in 2 sessions: the first was preliminary round (between 10:15 AM to 11:00 AM) and the second final round for the best 6 teams (between 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM). Quiz covered entire spectrum of psychiatry. 24 teams participated.

The Department of Psychiatry organized a Public Awareness Program, "Family Meet-2015" on 27-03-2015 at VIth Floor, Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital, Mangalore.
Department of Psychiatry, KSHEMA organised a 'Family Meet' for the De-addicted people and their Families on March 27th , Friday . Around sixty families benefited by this.Welcome speech was given by Dr. Satheesh Rao, Prof. & Head, Department of Psychiatry, and Dr. Jayaram Shetty, Professor, Department of Radio Therapy, Mr. Anand Kumar , Counsellor , Prajna Counselling Centre, Mangalore , Mrs. Clara D'cunha, Teloka, De-addiction Centre for women were the resource persons.

Program by Pulmonary Medicine Department - K S Hegde Hospital
On the occasion of World tuberculosis day on 24th march 2015, an interactive session with the patients was organized by the Pulmonary Medicine Department.
Dr Giridhar BH. & Dr Rajesh V. briefed the gathering regarding the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis. The significance of global slogan for the year 2015 " reach, treat, cure everyone " was elaborated which was followed by interaction with the audience. The program was conducted in the seminar hall of the department of Pulmonary medicine. Dr Karuna Rameshkumar, Medical superintendent presided over the program.

Indian Society Of Periodontology Professional Enrichment Programme (P E P) , a National Level Surgical Workshop - ABSMIDS
The Department of Periodontics, A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences conducted an Indian Society Of Periodontology Professional Enrichment Programme (P E P) , a National Level Surgical Workshop in association with Indian Society of Periodontology Study Group , D K branch.
The programme included a Surgical Workshop on Autogenous Grafts in Periodontics. A live Surgical demonstration on the use of Autogenous Bone Grafts in Periodontics followed by a Video display of the Management of Soft Tissues defects around the Implants and Indirect Sinus Lift Procedures was part of the workshop. The resource person for this workshop was Dr. K V. Arun, Professor, Ragas Dental College, Uthandi, Chennai.
The aim of the workshop was to train the post graduate students and faculty in the harvesting of Autogenous Grafts which is the Gold Standard in Periodontal Regeneration.
Over 110 Post - Graduate Students from the Specialties of Periodontics, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Prosthodontics from Karnataka and the nearby states attended this workshop.

National CME on Art of Modelling in Museum Techniques with hands on experience - Kshema
The Department of Anatomy organized a CME / Symposium, "National CME on Art of Modelling in Museum Techniques with hands on experience" on 27-03-2015 at K S Hegde Medical Academy.
A great teacher is a skilled leader, one who provides a classroom entertainment. Teaching with models brings reality to the subject and the students will be able to understand the concept more clearly. Models are also a part of the museum. Models are usually very helpful in teaching embryology since the student does not have to imagine. Most of the models that are available commercially lacks surface detailing and is not a teaching material but a show piece.

Prof. (Dr.) N.Sridhar Shetty, Founder & Director, CADSS inspired Students to achieve right balance between work and Extracurricular activities.
Prof. (Dr.) Krishna Nayak, Principal & Dean presided over the function.
Prof. (Dr.) Mithra N Hegde, HOD (Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics) welcomed the gathering.
Prof. (Dr.) Sharma, Former Head of Department, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department who retired recently after his three decades of Meritorious Service was given a warm Farewell by the Management, Staffs and Students.
