CME / Symposium on "Basic Neonatal Resuscitation Program - KSHEMA

The Department of Paediatrics organized a CME / Symposium, "Basic Neonatal Resuscitation Program " on 17-10-2015 at K S Hegde Charitable Hospital.

Short report on Training program: Basic Neonatal Resuscitation Program was conducted at K.S.Hegde Hospital on the 17th of October, 2015 under the leadership of Dr.Vijaya Shenoy, Professor and Head of Department of Pediatrics and course coordinator Dr.Swathi Rao (Pediatrics). The workshop was graced by leading instructors under the leadership of Dr.Prashanth Kini.K. There were a total of 34 delegates, that included staff nurses, pediatric, anaesthesia and OBG postgraduates. The workshop commenced at 8 a.m with the initial pre-test evaluation and introduction of faculty members and the organization of delegates into their respective groups. An inauguration ceremony was held, to which Dr.J.P.Shetty, Registrar of Nitte University was guest of honor. The workshop training commenced with Dr.Kiran Baliga demonstrating the steps of preparation of birth, by use of visual aids. This was followed by a session presided by Dr.Prashanth Kini, where an introduction to the NSSK algorithms was done. Dr.Subodh Shetty explained the basics of routine care and observational care of newborns. Dr.Vinayak presided over sessions on brief ventilation and its demonstration, and Dr.Prabhakar and Dr.Prashanth Kini demonstrated the basics of prolonged ventilation. The post lunch session began with demonstration of the Mega Code by Dr.Prashanth Kini after which delegates were made to practice the same at their respective stations under the guidance of the instructors. Finally, the post test and post test mega code were conducted, to analyze the delegates, and it was found that all delegates were competent. The workshop ended with a brief valedictory function, where individual course certificates were distributed by course instructors.
