World Health Day – Diabetes mellitus Programme - KSHEMA

The Department of Community Medicine organized a Public Awareness Program, "World Health Day – Diabetes mellitus Programme" on 14-11-2015 at Govt primary school and RHC Sasihitlu.

In view of World Health Day, an awareness programme on Diabetes was being conducted on 14th November 2015, under the guidance and supervision of Dr. K. G. Kiran, professor of department of Community Medicine, KSHEMA, Dr. Indushekar Shetty, MO, RHC Sashithulu, Mr. Santosh N. P, medical social worker, Department of community medicine, Kshema, Dr. Nikita Soans and Dr. Varun. J, interns, Kshema actively participated in the presence of 50 village people. Mr. Dilip assisted the camp.

The programme was inaugurated by Nagesh Bangera, president Yuvaka Mandala old students association Sashithulu. Dr. Indushekar shetty gave a brief introduction on the topic. Mrs Clotrilda D'souza, Headmistress of school and Mr. Dayanada S and Aravind Saliyan were also present on the dias.

It was a informative programme with good response from the locals. We had the opportunity to interact with the local community and educate them about the complication of DM and the need for proper blood sugar control which is of utmost importance not just for an individual bit for the community as a whole. Various methods of lifestyle modification was demonstrated to the local community for control and prevention of complications related to DM.

An awareness walk was conducted and various informative placards were displayed which was helpful for a better outreach of the programme to the local houses which were unable to attend the function. Overall it was a day well spent and was very informative for both the doctors as well as the local population.
