Department of Child Health Nursing faculties conducted health awareness progromme on “MENSTRUAL HYGIENE” for 82 adolescent girls at, Government High School, Pavoor on 29th July 2016 from10.30 am -12.10 pm under the guidance of Mrs. Sujatha. R. Mrs. Jeevitha Assistant Lectures Ms. Samseena, Ms. Swathi & Mrs. Shoba actively participated in the program. Pre assessment on knowledge was done by Ms. Swathi & Mrs. Sujatha. R. followed by which Ms. Samseena, delivered the health talk in Kannada on menstrual hygiene. The health education mainly focused on the importance of menstrual hygiene, causes of poor menstrual hygiene and prevention. Post assessment was conducted which showed lot of improvement in knowledge of adolescent girls. The students had lots of questions about menstrual hygiene which was clarified by the team .The school authorities has mentioned that the health talk was very useful for the students. They also mentioned that the topic which is taught with the help of audio-visual aids was the highlight in our health talk.

Oral health education camp- Dandeli - ABSMIDS
Oral health education camp was organized by Sahyadri preservation group, for the children’s of Dandeli tribal schools; Joida District on 26th and 27th of June 2016. The oral health awareness talk was given by Dr.Gopinath Thilak P.S from the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dr. Vinayak Kamath from Department of Public health dentistry. Health talk along with distribution of tooth brush and paste were done for 6 schools in Joida district namely Palada, Veeranjol, Karambala, Rangaruka, Baralakoda, Kattalegal .

Medicines sans frontiers (Doctors Without Borders) program - KSHEMA
Medicines Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders) is an international medical humanitarian organization with relief programmes worldwide, including India. MSF was awarded the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize for medical humanitarian work.
In K.S.Hegde we organized a presentation for raising awareness at our college, about “Doctors Without Borders”, with core objective of inviting medical professionals to volunteer for MSF. The speaker was Dr.Chandrika Ravindran who is Paediatric surgeon by profession and now a MSF volunteer.
The session was conducted in Justice K.S.Hegde Charitable hospital seminar hall on July 14th in presence of Vice Deans, Dr. Prakash.P.S, Dr. Amrith Mirajkar, Registrar Dr.JayaPrakash Shetty and Asst.MS.
More than 100 students attended and around 30 postgraduates and interns along with 20-30 staff and heads of department attended. It was a good session and students had a career options given to them.

KSHEMA PACE- 2016 - KSHEMA
The Department of Anaesthesiology organized a Conference, "KSHEMA PACE- 2016" from 09-07-2016 to 10-07-2016 at K S Hegde Medical Academy, Mangaluru.
Department of Anaesthesiology, K S Hegde Medical Academy has conducted 2 days academic programme on paediatric anaesthesia KSHEMA PACE – 2016 in K S Hegde Hospital Seminar hall successfully on 9th & 10th July 2016. While inaugurating the event, Dr M s Moodithaya, Registrar, Nitte University said that it is difficult to keep abreast of the things in 21st century due to rapid advances in science. If anyone has to attempt to update he has to unlearn learn and relearn on daily basis. He also stressed upon one persons journey from conscious incompetence to unconscious competence through continuous learning. Dr K M Venkatagiri, National secretary of Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, emphasised need for eternal vigilance on the part of anaesthesiologist while anesthetising children in preventing untoward incidents. Dean KSHEMA wished best to the faculty and delegates gathered from different parts of the country. Dr P S Prakash, Vice Dean and HOD General Medicine presided over the event. Dr. Abdul Hameed, Treasurer, Indian Society of Anaesthesiology, Dr Anand Bangera, HOD department of Anaesthesiology and treasurer Indian Society of Anaesthesiology Karnataka, state branch. School Dental Treatment programme and survey report - ABSMIDS
As a part of N-BRITE Programme, we from the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry of A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Science conducted a free dental treatment camp and a survey at Sri Ramakrishna Higher Primary School, Harekala on 22.07.16 (Wednesday) under the able guidance of Sr. Prof (Dr) Amitha M. Hegde, H.O.D department of Pedodontics and Preventive dentistry. A Survey on "Effects of use of electronic gadgets on the overall behaviour and development of children "was done on 241 children between the age group 6 -15yrs and data was recorded.

Dental screening and treatment camp at Holy Angel Higher Primary School, Permanoor - ABSMIDS
Our College and the N-BRITE program, the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry in association with NSS unit of A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, conducted a free dental screening camp at Holy Angel Higher Primary School, Permanoor on 20.07.16 (Wednesday) under the able guidance of Sr. Prof (Dr) Amitha M. Hegde, Dr. Mohammed Shaji, Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry and NSS Officer, Dr Kumuda Rao, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology. Oral screening was done for 65 children in the school and the oral health status was recorded.

Induction Training Program for Probationary Officers of Union Bank Of India - NIBF
The three week long Induction training program for about 400 probationary officers of Union Bank of India commenced on 13/06/2016 at NMAMIT campus Nitte. The training program was inaugurated by Mr. K. Chandrashekhar Field General Manager Union Bank of India, Bengaluru. Dr N K Thingalaya former CMD, Syndicate Bank presided over the function. Dr M S Moodithaya Registrar, Nitte University was the guest of Honour. Prof K R Nayak welcomed the gathering and Sri S D Pai proposed vote of thanks. Ms Sona Rai compered the program. Senior officials of Union Bank of India and faculty members of Nitte Education International were present on the occasion.

“SWARAKSHA” program on Self Defence technique for Women - KSHEMA
Women Guidance Cell, Committee against sexual harassment &Women Rights Commission Cells of K.S.Hegde Medical Academy jointly organised a program ‘SWARAKSHA’ on women’s self defence technique on 18th July 2016. The program was conducted by Mrs. Shobhalatha Kateel and Mr.Karthik Kateel, mother-son duo, dedicated to the cause of women’s self defence against sexual harassments. They demonstrated simple and effective techniques that could be used by women against antecedents of men with ulterior motives in several situations. The demonstration was followed by an interaction session. Nearly 150 ladies staff and students participated in the program.

Dr. Jagannath Purushotham, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health, KSHEMA, has been selected by World Health Organization, South East Asia Regional Office to participate in the 11th Annual Global Tobacco Control Leadership Program at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA. This Leadership Program being held from July 18th to 29th 2016, is an in-depth program focused on building capacity to develop effective tobacco control policy interventions.

Orientation Day - NSAMFGC - Bengaluru
The orientation program was organized on 9th July, 2016 for parents and students of the First year B.Com and BBA course.
All parents and students were greeted by the reception committee and guided to the Seminar Hall after registration.
Refreshments and Coffee was served to all and the program commenced at 10.a.m. with the invocation to invoke the blessings of the Almighty by Ms Swathi, Faculty of Commerce and Management. The lighting of the lamp, signifying knowledge and learning, was done by parents and students of the First Year. Dr Meera Krishnappa, Principal of Dr NSAM First Grade College welcomed the gathering and briefed them about the history of the Nitte Education Trust and Dr NSAM First Grade College. She also spoke about the activities conducted by the college through the academic year. This was followed by the address of all the faculty members regarding the committees that they are in charge of. The following committees’ activities were detailed: Academic, Attendance, Discipline, Placement, Add-On Courses, Sports, Cultural Committee, Women’s Forum, Literary & Magazine, NSS and NCC. Some students of first year B.Com and BBA shared their impressions on their experience in the college. The students felt they are a part of the Nitte family and they also felt that the Principal and the faculty members are very friendly and cooperative and motivate students to take part in various activities of the college. Parents also expressed their opinion of the colleg
e. They appreciated the excellent humane approach of the admission cell and also said that they had a high opinion of the Principal, Faculty and the institution.

Fresher’s Day - NSAMFGC Bengaluru
On the 15th of July 2016, Fresher’s Day was celebrated by the students of Dr. NSAM First Grade College. The event was organized by the final year students under the guidance of the cultural committee. The final years took great pains in creating a beautiful ambience on the stage and in the premises.
Prof. Haniyuru Chandre Gowda, Assistant Director, Regional Centre for Folk Studies and Folk Arts Training was the chief guest. Mr. Rohit Punja, Administrator NET, Dr. H C Nagaraj, Principal NMIT, Mrs. Rajalakshmi, Principal Dr. NSAM PU College were the guests of honour. Dr. Meera Krishnappa, Principal Dr. NSAM FGC presided over the formal session. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental sciences and the N-BRITE program, we from the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, conducted a free dental treatment camp in Bala Samrakshana Kendra, Kuttar on 03.07.16 (Sunday) under the able guidance of Senior Prof. (Dr) Amitha. M. Hegde, H.O.D of the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry and Prof. (Dr) Amarshree Shetty. A total of 70 students were screened and 15 children were treated.

CDE on "RESTORING PRIMARY TEETH, THE ZIRCONIA WAY" – ABSMIDS
Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences in association with Blue Oceana Dental Private Limited, organized a CDE programme on "Restoring primary teeth, the zirconia way" was held on 14.07.2016.The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest, Prof. (Dr.) U.S.Krishna Nayak, Dean and Principal, A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences. The welcome address was given by Prof. (Dr) Amitha M. Hegde, Head of the Department of Pedodontics, A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences. Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Muthu, Head of Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai was the resource person who conducted a workshop on "Restoring primary teeth, the zirconia way"and the guest of honour was Mr.Seenivasan, the CEO of Blue Oceana Dental Private Limited. The Vote of thanks was given by Prof (Dr) Vabitha Shetty and the entire programme was co-ordinated by Dr. Nikita Lolayekar.
The Programme consisted of two sessions. The first session included two lectures given by Mr. Seenivasan, followed by Prof. (Dr.) M.S. Muthu. The second session included the hands on workshop, by live demonstration and individual guidance by Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Muthu which was conducted in the phantom clinic, at the Department of Prosthodontics, A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, for the registered candidates who were trained in crown preparations for anterior and posterior primary teeth to receive zirconia crowns. The lectures were attended by 90 candidates and the hands on was performed by 45 candidates which included the postgraduates and the staff from 6 neighbouring colleges.
The programme was well appreciated by the candidates as assessed from the feedback forms.
