International day for children with disability Celebration report - ABSMIDS

The International Day for Disabilities was marked on 3rd December 2016 by the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, in association with the Nitte- Special Child Care Centre (N-SPECC) and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana, Government of India. This day celebrated children with special health care needs and marked the attendance of over 125 children and their parents. The chief guest for the programme was Mr. Jayaram Bhat, Managing Director of Karnataka Bank. It was also attended by other eminent personalities like Prof. (Dr) U.S. Krishna Nayak, Mr. Srinivas Deshpande, Major (Dr.) Shivakumar Hiramet, Mr. M.P. Jnanesh, Mrs. Geeta Devadas and Mr. Lakshmi Narayana Bhat.







The programme began with three very informative sessions conducted by Mr. Deepak Raj (Department of Speech and Hearing), Dr. Prashanth Shetty (Department of Pediatrics) and Ms. Meghana Baliga (Department of Physiotherapy) who highlighted their role in the upliftment of children with special health care needs. This was followed by a skit organised by the post-graduates from the department of Pedodontcs and Preventive dentistry. Following the skit, Prof.(Dr.) Amitha M. Hegde, Head of the department, Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry and Coordinator, N-SPECC, presented a report on the work done by N-SPECC in the past one year.

An official inauguration was conducted, after which 10 wheelchairs were distributed to the children. The children and parents participated in numerous competitions organised by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana with great enthusiasm. This day in turn proved to be very informative for the parents and children and at the same time made them feel like home, by being a part of N-SPECC.
