Nitte scientist accorded Embo Research Award - NUCSER

Dr. Deekshit, Assistant Professor at Nitte Centre for Science Education & Research has recently bagged the prestigious European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO), short term fellowship award for three months, from January to early April, 2018 to carry out advanced research at the University College Dublin, Ireland, in the laboratory of Prof. Seamus Fanning. The visit will facilitate valuable collaborations with research groups there, applying techniques that are unavailable in the applicant's laboratory. The novelty and feasibility of the project developed by Dr. Deekshit was the key criteria for his selection.

During the tenure, he will study the molecular basis underpinning mechanisms of resistance/silent resistance to antimicrobial agents. In addition, he will use whole genome sequencing along with RNA sequencing to explore the nature of these mechanisms in bacteria of importance to public health. The Director of the research centre, Prof. Indrani Karunasagar has been highly supportive of such initiatives of faculty exchange that is bringing global recognition to the research initiatives at NITTE. She informed that Dr. Deekshit’s research funding and stay for three months is fully funded and is a matter of pride that a faculty of Nitte Centre for Science Education and Research has been awarded the EMBO fellowship for two consecutive years.
