Research Ethics and Scientific Writing - NGSMIPS

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, organized a guest lecture on “Research Ethics and Scientific Writing” by Dr. Tanuj Kanchan, Assistant Dean and Research & Associate Professor, Dept. of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur on 20th March 2019.

The program started with welcome address by Dr. K. Ishwar Bhat, Professor & Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The Principal, Dr. C S Shastry greeted Dr. Tanuj Kanchan with a floral bouquet and introduced him to the audience.




Dr. Tanju Kanchan started his talk introducing the basic concepts of Research Ethics, Scientific writing of research projects and publications and then went on to emphasise on the most crucial and finer points which need due diligence by research scholars. The first half of the lecture focussed on Plagiarism which is an important aspect of today’s research. He urged the researchers to be thoroughly aware about plagiarism and the implications involved. He clearly segregated and explained the terms Fabrication, Falsification, Salami Slicing which leads to plagiarism in current research. He also touched on some points like similarity index, citations, authorship concepts, predatory journals, software to detect plagiarism etc. The second half of his lecture was on Scientific writing in which he elaborated some concepts of writing a project, execution of theoretical research idea, intellectual property and copyright. Dr. Tanuj gave thorough insights on how to write scientific articles effectively and how to select the journals accordingly. He made the closing session highly interactive by engaging the students in a Q & A session and shared valid tips on the framing of manuscripts, effective phrasing and presentation of their research work in the journals. He also advised students to target for high impact journals rather than choosing journals with low impact factor. Dr. Tanuj was felicitated with a memento by Dr. K Ishwar Bhat. Dr. M Vijay Kumar, Asst.Professor, Pharmaceutical Chemistry proposed the vote of thanks.
