NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organized a two-day National Symposium and Workshop on “Emerging Perspectives in Preclinical and Clinical Research” on 28th & 29th March 2019 sponsored by the Indian Pharmacological Society. Dr. M Vijaya Kumar, Vice- Chancellor, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangalore was the chief guest; Dr. B Dinesh Kumar, President, Indian Pharmacological Society was the guest of honour and Prof S. K. Kulkarni, Emeritus Prof. of Pharmacology and former Pro-VC, Punjab University was the keynote speaker. Prof. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) presided over the function and highlighted the academic and research perspectives with respect to Pharmacology. He stressed on the importance of research as an integral part of academics and expressed his views on preclinical, clinical and interdisciplinary research. Dr. C S Shastry, Principal of the college and Chairman of the symposium, welcomed and introduced the guests and resource persons to the gathering.
Dr. M Vijaya Kumar, a distinguished Surgical Oncologist by profession, in his inaugural address placed highly educative and authoritative views on preclinical and clinical research in cancer. Speaking on the importance of research, he shed light on publications, patents and also pointed that publications with high impact factor was a good indicator of progress, but the noteworthy output of research, was patents. Hence he urged the faculty and research scholars to work towards getting more patents for the institution. He appreciated the Institution for the excellent infrastructure and for offering a congenial research climate to the students. He also congratulated the delegates for participating in large numbers in the symposium.
The symposium was scheduled with 3 scientific sessions and Poster presentations. On the concluding day, 29th March 2019, Dr. C. S. Shastry, Principal, NGSMIPS and Chairman of the symposium, delivered the closing remarks and appreciated the delegates for their active participation. Mrs. Zeena Fernandes conducted the proceedings. Dr M. Vijay Kumar, Asst. Professor and Organizing Secretary of the symposium along with the Resource person, Dr. Shanish Antony, gave away the prizes for best poster presenters and certificates to the delegates. Dr M. Vijay Kumar also proposed the vote of thanks.
