The Department of Psychiatry conducted a Substance Abuse Training Workshop for faculty of different colleges under Nitte (Deemed to be University) on 29th March 2019 at the Medical Education Unit Hall, KSHEMA.
Dr Santosh Prabhu, Asst. Professor, Dr. Gunasagari Rao, Professor, Psychiatric Social Work and Ms Mamatha Bhandary, Student Counsellor were the resource persons and delivered sessions on the following topics:
- Substance abuse among students.
- Understanding substance abuse.
- Different kinds of substance abuse prevalent among students.
- How to motivate students to take professional help for substance abuse management and recovery, alongside counseling, therapeutic sessions and medication.
- How to identify substance abuse among students and refer for treatment and intervention.
- To motivate and help students to have healthy life choices.
- To incorporate drug prevention activities wherever possible.
