Dr. Anoop Narayanan V, Asst. Professor and Dr. R. Narayana Charyulu, Professor & Head, Department of Pharmaceutics, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences bagged the “Best Paper Award 2018“ for the best original research articles published in indexed journals.
Among 76 publications form the institution in the year 2018, a research work entitled “Mango leaf extract synthesized silver nanorods exert anticancer activity on breast cancer and colorectal carcinoma cells” published in the ‘Journal of Drug Delivery Science and Technology’ Volume 44 in the month April 2018 was selected for the award.
The journal presently claims an impact factor of 2.606. The award function was held on 13th August 2019 at “Chintana”, Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte, Mangalore and was presided by Sri Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University).
The study adopted a green method of synthesis of rod shaped silver nanoparticles using aqueous extract of mango leaves. Mangiferin a major constituent of mango leaves was found to bind with the silver nanorods and they exhibited anticancer activity against breast cancer and colorectal carcinoma cells grown in the laboratory. The research can lead to the formulation of new strategies in anticancer therapy.
