Swachh bharath abhiyan - NIPT

Swachh Sena of Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy participated in 5th Phase of Ramakrishna Mission's 43rd Sunday Swachhta Abhiyan which was the “CONCLUDING CEREMONY: MASSIVE SHRAMADAN” on 29th September 2019 which was at CENTRAL MARKET, MANGALURU. Faculty member Honourable Principal Dr.Dhanesh Kumar K.U, Dr. Purusotham Chipala,Mr. Subhashchandra Rai and Mr. Krishnaprasad along with 160 students participated in the event.

The Honorable Chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be) University, Shri. N Vinaya Hegde, MLA of Mangaluru South Mr. Vedavyas Kamath, Managing Director of MRPL Mr. M Venkatesh, Former Member of Legislative Council Capt Ganesh Karnik and Commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation Mr. Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde were the Chief Guests of the Event. Around 4000 volunteers came together to participate in the event. Around a Ton of Waste was removed and the Roads were cleaned. NIPT proudly supported by getting associated with Ramakrishna Mission’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for 5years and would strive ahead to work forthe cause of building the Nation. The Swachh Sena of NIPT has relentlessly put their Efforts, Hardwork and Dedication to make Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative a Successful one.

Information Camp for NSS students - NSAM PUC, Mangaluru

The NSS unit of Dr. NSAM Pre-University College jointly with Vishwa Belaku Souharda Co-operative Society organised an Information Camp for NSS students. Retired soldier, Sri. Gopinath Bellal and his wife were felicitated at the event.

Addressing the NSS students of the college, Sri. Bellal Gopinath said that we ought to be proud of the Indian Army which is responsible and committed to protecting the nation. He explained the life of Indian soldiers who are defending the world's highest battlefield at Siachen to save their motherland from enemies under extreme climate and hostile terrain conditions. The bravery, adventure and patience of the soldiers are to be emulated, he said. He urged the youth of the country to join the Indian Army with enthusiasm and prepare for the preliminary exams with dedication.

Principal Dr. Naveen Shetty K in his presidential address said that the soldiers of our country are responsible for the well being of common citizens. The soldiers protect our county from external attack. It is the responsibility and duty of every citizen to respect them and acknowledge their selfless sacrifice.

The President of the Co-operative society Mr. Prakash Kotian , the Director Ms. Kalpana Kotian, Mr. Vijay Aithal, Mr. Ravikumar, Ms. Shaini D’souza and Ms. Bhavya Rani were present on the occasion.

Members of the NSS unit, Swathi and Pallavi rendered the prayer song and NSS officer Ms. Sandhya welcomed the gathering. The program concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Mohana B.

Sensitization program on Breast Health - NUINS

The Health Club of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organized a sensitization program on Breast Health on 26th September 2019. Dr. Rajashekar Mohan, Professor and Head, Dept. of General Surgery, KSHEMA was the chief guest and resource person.

Mrs. Harsha Thomas welcomed the gathering and Dr. Fatima D’Silva, Principal NUINS welcomed the resource person with a floral bouquet. Dr. Rajashekar Mohan, in his talk emphasized the importance of breast self examination, the difference between ultrasound mammography and X-ray mammography and the need to educate the public in this regard.

Mrs. Mishal Mathew, Chairperson of Health Club proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Fatima D’Silva presented a memento to Dr. Rajashekar Mohan as a token of appreciation. The talk was followed by an interactive discussion session. 30 faculty members and 21 students attended the program.





Inauguration of Bharat Scouts and Guides - MRSM EMHS

Bharath Scouts and Guides was inaugurated on 27th September 2019 at Dr. MRSM English Medium School by Mrs Anitha Catherine, PDO, Padupanambur Panchayath. Mr. Irfan, Dist. Commissioner, Bharat Scouts & Guides, Dakshina Kannada and the Principal, Mrs Shreelatha Rao were present on the occasion.

Mrs. Anitha advised the students to incorporate the spirit of our great leaders, Subhaschandra Bose and Rani Laxmibai after whom the boys and girls units have been named. Mr. Irfan gave a bird's eye view of the Scouts and Guides. The Principal congratulated the students for taking up Scouts and Guides and emphasised the role it plays in developing different skills and shaping one`s character.

Jnanesh V of Class 8 compered the function, S M Aamna, Class 8 welcomed the gathering, Neha P of Class 6 proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Suma and Mrs. Jyothi Banjan, in charge of Scouts and Guides, co-ordinated the function.


Plant a Tree on Your Birthday - NUGIP

After the introduction of “Plant a Tree on Your Birthday” campaign under the Nitte University Green Initiative Project, planting a sapling on birthdays has become a tradition in KSHEMA campus. In the months of July and August, 7 staff members celebrated their birthday by planting a sapling in the campus. Mr. Shashi Kumar Shetty, Green Officer co-ordinated the initiative.

Blood Cancer Stem Cell Awareness and Donor Registration Drive - NSS Unit Nitte (Deemed to be University)

The NSS Unit of Nitte (Deemed to be University) in association with DKMS-BMST conducted a Blood Cancer Stem Cell Awareness and Donor Registration drive on 23.09.2019 at the new Auditorium of AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences.

DKMS BMST Foundation India is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and other blood disorders. DKMS BMST is one of the largest international blood stem cell donor centres in the world.

Dr. Sumalatha R Shetty, NSS Co-ordinator, NitteDU, welcomed the gathering at the inaugural function. Prof. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte DU presided over the program. Ms. Nisha Felicita, Senior Associate, DKMS- BMST conducted Blood Cancer Stem Cell Awareness session and donor drive set up. This was followed by an interactive Q&A session. Around 760 NSS volunteers from constituent colleges of NitteDU participated in the program and 306 volunteers came forward and registered as stem cell donors.

SNA club inauguration and freshers day - NUINS

The SNA club inauguration and freshers’ day celebrations of Nitte Usha Institue of Nursing Sciences were held at the KS Hegde Auditorium on 21st September, 2019. The freshers were accorded traditional welcome. The program began with a welcome speech by the Vice Principal, Dr. Sabitha Nayak. The Principal Dr. Fatima D`silva presided over the function. Dr. Amitha M Hegde, Sr. Professor and Head, Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry, ABSMIDS was the chief guest. Addressing the students she emphasized that, life is full of challenges and opportunities and without hard work and dedication one cannot reach the pinnacle of one`s career. The SNA club office bearers of the year 2018 -19 handed over the responsibilities to the newly nominated SNA members.

Mrs. Timi Thomas, SNA Advisor administered the oath to the newly nominated SNA members. Ms. Jancy Joy, ex- SNA Vice-President read the Annual Report for the year 2018-19 and Ms. Shalom, newly nominated SNA Vice-President addressed the gathering. Dr Neetha Kamath, proposed the vote of thanks. Mr Gavin & Ms Merlin of II BSc Nursing anchored the program. Refreshments were served after the formal inauguration and was followed by some splendid variety entertainment shows put up by the talented freshers.




Guest Lecture - “Take the lead” - 50th NSS day celebrations - NGSMIPS

On the occasion of the 50th NSS day celebrations, the NSS unit of NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organized a guest lecture on 24th September 2019 on the topic - “Take the lead” by Dr. Raghavendra Holla, Manager (Admn) - Mangaluru SEZ Ltd.

Mr. Srinivas Hebbar, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Pharmaceutics introduced the resource person and stated the importance and purpose of the NSS day celebrations. Dr. CS Shastry, Principal florally welcomed the guest speaker and advised the students to voluntarily and enthusiastically participate in community service activities to bring about positive changes in the society.

Dr. Raghavendra Holla started his session with a few attention grabbers which ignited curiosity in the students and prodded them to involve in the lecture. He cited some real life examples to lucidly drive home the concepts of leadership. His thought provoking questions stirred the students’ interest and made the session very interactive.

Dr. R. Narayana Charyulu, Vice Principal presented a memento to Dr. Raghavendra Holla as a token of appreciation. Dr. Santanu Saha, NSS Co-ordinator proposed the vote of thanks.






World Pharmacists Day 2019 - NGSMIPS

Ensuring patient safety by improving medicine use and reducing medication errors is the crucial role of today’s pharmacists. “Safe and effective medicine for all”, the theme for this year’s World Pharmacists Day emphasises this crucial intervention and assistance of pharmacists sought by the healthcare delivery system. Achieving this noble objective of better patient health is next to impossible without the expert advice and assistance of pharmacists. To drive home this message to the public, a rally was organised by the college on 25th September 2019. Over 800 students, teaching and non-teaching staff participated in the rally which was flagged off by the Principal Dr. CS Shastry. Post the rally, an eminent pharmacist and alumnus of the college, Mr. Sakharam Shenoy K, Proprietor, Ganesh Medicals, Mulleria, Kasargod was felicitated. Ms. Emy Thomas and Ms. Soumya anchored the program. Ms. Zeena Fernandes, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Pharmacology proposed the vote of thanks.







Aranya Mitra award - NUCSER

Karnataka State Forest Department, Mangalore celebrated “Vrukshotsava 2019” on 24th September, 2019. On this occasion Prof. Dr. Smitha Hegde of NUCSER was conferred “Aranya Mitra” an award for her efforts towards conserving biodiversity and greening of environment and her work on tree cover of Mangalore city and documenting pteridophyte biodiversity in Kudremukh National Park. Mr. Prakash Netalkar, Conservator of Forests, Mangalore; Dr. Karikalan V, Dy. Conservator of Forests, Mangalore, Ministry of Environment & Forests India, GoK State Forests; Mangalore City South MLA Sri. Vedavyasa Kamath and Swami Ekagamyanandaji, Convener of the Ramakrishna Mission's Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan handed over the Award at a ceremony conducted at Town Hall on 24th September, 2019. Nearly 1000 citizens and students of Mangalore city attended the function.

The ‘ABS-HAEMATOLOGY LAB’ in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology & Oral Microbiology was inaugurated on 12th September 2019 by Prof. (Dr.) Akter Husain, Additional Principal, Yenepoya Dental College.

A CDE program “Haem O Path” Blood investigations – Basics - Learn from the Experts was organised by the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology, ABSMIDS on 12th September 2019. Principal & Dean, Prof. (Dr.) Krishna Nayak, Vice Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Mithra Hegde and Founder Dean & Director, CADSS, Prof. (Dr.) N. Sridhar Shetty presided over the program. Head of the Department, Prof. (Dr.) Pushparaja Shetty welcomed the gathering. Prof. (Dr.) Akter Husain, Additional Principal, Yenepoya Dental College addressed the gathering. Prof. (Dr.) Sreelatha S. Nitte University Green Initiative started “Plant a Tree on Your Birthday” in KSHEMA campus for the teaching and non-teaching staff. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte DU celebrated his birthday by planting a sapling of Pomelo (Citrus maxima) in the campus. Mr. Shashi Kumar Shetty, Green Officer, KSHEMA Campus co-ordinated the initiative.


Workshop on “Experiments in CVS Pharmacology” - NGSMIPS

A one-day workshop on  “Cardiovascular Pharmacology” was organised by the Department of Pharmacology, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences on 13th September, 2019. Dr. C S Shastry, Principal welcomed the resource persons Mr. JKL Prasad, BDM-North and East India and Mr. Sumant Bhat, Technical Manager, A.D Instruments, Bangalore.

Introducing the resource persons, Dr. C S Shastry advised the young gathering to engage in research that is useful to society. He enlightened the participants on automation in cardiovascular pharmacology and stressed upon the non-invasive techniques for recording blood pressure and ECG. In this context he also mentioned some of the technological innovations useful for conducting research on animals with advanced instruments.

Dr. Sumanth Bhat presented the technical overview on the high performance power lab data acquisition and a live demonstration of recording blood pressure, ECG and other important parameters using the experimental animal rat. Mr. JKL Prasad co-ordinated the demonstration and explained the instrumentation to the audience.

The participants actively involved themselves in the Q&A session to gather more information about the automated tool for recording BP, ECG and pulse.
