Guest lecture on “Awareness of Heart Disease” - NGSMIPS

The Department of Pharmacy Practice, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organized a guest lecture on “Awareness of Heart Disease” by Dr. Subramanyam K, Professor & Head, Department of Cardiology, KSHEMA on 30th September 2019 at 10:00 am in the Seminar Hall of the college. Dr. Juno J Joel, Asst. Professor & Head, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice welcomed and Dr. C.S Shastry, Principal addressed the gathering about heart diseases and their impact. Dr. Uday Venkat Mateti introduced the speaker.

Dr. Subramanyam said cardiovascular disease is the world’s number one killer. One in 10 adult men, one in 9 women aged 45-65 years and one in 3 both men and women after the age of 65 are suffering from cardiovascular disease. He said lifestyle modifications (exercise, healthy diet and stress management) play a very important role in reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke. He captured the attention of the gathering by supporting his presentation with appealing videos on angiogram.

Followed by the guest lecture, a “Blood Pressure (BP) and Body Mass Index (BMI) Screening Program” was arranged. A total of 106 people were screened. Two staff nurses of Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital and four nursing students from Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences assisted in carrying out the BP and BMI screening.

Dr. Subramanyam was felicitated by Dr. C. S. Shastry, Principal. Dr. Uday Venkat Mateti conducted the proceedings and was ably supported by his colleagues, Dr. Juno J Joel, Mr. Bharath Raj, Dr. Treesa, Mr. Nandakumar, Dr. Anjaly Vijayan, Dr. Viany BC, and Dr. Sharad Chand. The teaching, non-teaching staff, and students participated in the guest lecture and the screening program.
