To commemorate the first successful public demonstration of painless surgery (origin of anaesthesia) World Anaesthesia Day was celebrated on 16th October 2019 at Justice K S Hegde Hospital. The Chief Guest, Dr M S Moosabba, Professor, General Surgery & Principal, Yenepoya Medical College appreciated the role of anaesthesiologists in patient care. He said “Not only do they make the surgery comfortable by rendering it painless, they care for the patient in the ICU, post operative ward, during child birth, in pain clinic and many other areas of the hospital. Due to advances in the field of anaesthesiology, most complex surgical corrections, even in critically ill patients is possible”.
Dr Vikram Shetty, Professor & HoD, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences & Director of Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Craniofacial Surgery, while delivering the keynote address, opined that the anaesthesiologist's contribution is huge. Professor Dr Jaya Prakash Shetty, Vice Dean (Admn.), KSHEMA, presided over the ceremony.
Dr Sripada G Mehandale, Professor & HoD, Anaesthesiology and Critical Care welcomed the gathering. Dr Anil Shetty, Professor, Anaesthesiology proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Tejal R Natekar presented the anaesthesiologist's perspective.
Dr Prarthana M Raj and Dr Deepali Shetty were masters of ceremony. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the ‘CPR contest’, a competition held to test the proficiency of students of NitteDU in providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
