Self-Development Program for Staff Nurses

The Staff Development Centre, Nitte DU organized self-development programs for more than 500 nursing staff in a span of four months, between November 2019 to March 2020. The valedictory function was conducted at Chintana Hall, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital on 9th March 2020.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte DU stressed on the importance of self-development for the nursing staff. He emphasized that well-trained nursing staff were as important as the doctors, in the healthcare setup. He also advised them on developing qualities of leadership, empathy and responsibility.

Guest of Honour Dr. Alka Kulkarni, Registrar, Nitte DU, in her speech mentioned the significance of communication skills in the nursing profession as well as the importance of listening and writing skills.

Ms. Sadhana Deshmukh, Director, Staff Development Centre congratulated all the staff for their active and enthusiastic participation in the training program and stressed the importance of using the acquired skills in personal & professional life. She also mentioned that the Staff Development Centre would be conducting follow-up training sessions periodically. She thanked the two internal Coordinators, Ms. Vickypriya, Nurse Educator & Ms. Darryl Aranha, Deputy Nursing Superintendent for their effective coordination.

Ms Darryl Aranha in her observations on the Training Sessions, mentioned that the external facilitators were experienced and effective. She stated that the content of the program helped the participants to reflect on the areas of improvement and share it with the facilitators.

The Nursing Supervisors who coordinated the various batches of these self-development programs were presented with Certificates in recognition of their efforts, by Prof (Dr) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary. The function concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Lissy PJ, Nursing Supervisor.
