She spoke at length on sustainable menstruation and the use of menstrual cups in place of sanitary napkins. While being a sustainable and eco-friendly option, this method also is cost-effective, she said. In the course of her talk, she enlightened students on the reason behind observing 28/5 as Menstrual Hygiene Day – a woman has a normal cycle of 28 days and her period goes on for 5 days every month.
She lauded the Institute for keeping the session open to both men and women and said topics like these need to be discussed and the myths associated have to be cleared.
An interesting interactive session followed, with students asking her a lot of questions on the use of cups. The event ended with a vote of thanks by the YRC Coordinator for NICO, Assistant Professor, Utsha Sarkar.
