The Department of Community Medicine, KS Hegde Medical Academy organized a Health Check-up Camp on 15th February 2023 at Vivekananda Coaching Centre, Ramakrishna Ashram, Mangalore for the children of Vivekananda Coaching Centre. The general health check-up was conducted by Dr. K. Pavan Kumar, Asst. Professor and postgraduates of the Department of Community Medicine - Dr Monisha Mary, Dr Meghana M, Dr Saniya, Medical Social Worker, Mr Santhosh N P and interns, Swathy R and Swikriti Gupta.

A total of 76 students aged 9 to 15 years were examined; their height and weight recorded, personal hygiene, dental hygiene, visual acuity, colour vision and nutritional status assessed. It was found that 30 children were underweight; 3 children had upper respiratory tract infection; 9 children had refractive errors; 1 child had colour vision deficiency; 1 child had conjunctivitis; 2 children had Otitis Media and 10 children had dental caries. All the students were found to have good personal hygiene.

The children who had health problems requiring further care were brought to the notice of their class teachers, necessary nutritional advice given and referrals to Ophthalmology, ENT and Dental departments was advised.
