The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing, NUINS successfully conducted an outreach program on "Breast Cancer" at Kotekar Panchayath Auditorium on 11th March 2025 to raise awareness and educate women about breast cancer detection and prevention.
Prof. Philomena Fernandes, HoD, OBG, NUINS welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource persons. In her interactive session with the attendees, she covered various aspects of breast cancer, including its causes, risk factors, signs, symptoms and the significance of early detection. She also illustrated the Breast Self-Examination (BSE) technique with the help of faculty members, ensuring that the participants understood the correct method of self-examination.
Ms. Keerthimala K, Lecturer, OBG explained the preventive aspects of breast cancer, emphasizing the importance of a healthy lifestyle, regular screening and self-awareness. She encouraged the participants to adopt preventive measures and seek medical consultation when necessary. Several women came forward with questions and the team addressed their concerns with insightful and practical responses.
Ms. Ashwini GC delivered the vote of thanks. Ms. Shanthi, Supervisor from the Women & Child Health Project appreciated the efforts of the resource persons and faculty of NUINS for their commitment to women's health and education.
A total of 40 women and 4 faculty members attended the program.
