The students of the Department of Apparel Design & Fabrication Technology, NRAM Polytechnic attended a comprehensive six-day workshop on “Draping and Digital Tools” from 19th to 24th May 2025 at Nitte School of Fashion Technology and Interior Design (NSFTID), Bengaluru. The workshop was structured to provide a hands-on experience in both traditional and digital aspects of fashion design, catering to industry-relevant skills and practical application.
The digital segment of the workshop focused on Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Students learned to create technical flat sketches and textile prints using Illustrator. The software enabled them to develop professional-grade fashion illustrations, repeat patterns and detailed tech packs.
In Photoshop, participants created mood boards, conducted color correctionand manipulated images for polished presentation outputs. This segment enhanced students’ design visualization skills and their capability to produce industry-standard content.
The draping segment provided students with in-depth experience in working with fabric on dress forms. Participants explored the principles of fabric fall, silhouette design and the transformation of fabric into wearable art. They were trained in both classic and modern draping techniques using muslin fabric and learned how to translate these drapes into paper patterns. This encouraged a deeper understanding of garment construction from concept to form.
Students appreciated how digital tutorials boosted their confidence in sketching and technical design, while draping sessions allowed them to experience the tangible process of garment formation. The interactive and collaborative nature of the sessions also promoted peer learning and creative exploration, making the workshop both educational and inspiring.
