The Department of Public Health Dentistry, A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences in association with Plastics for Change, District Health & Family Welfare Department and District Surveillance Unit, Dakshina Kannada, conducted a free Anti- tobacco awareness and dental treatment camp for the Waste Managers and Scrap workers at Mini Town Hall, Mangalore on 20.07.2025. Anti-tobacco awareness was provided by Dr. Shilpa M, Lecturer, Public Health Dentistry, who emphasized on the ill effects of tobacco and nicotine products, the influence of tobacco industry on children and measures to protect the general public from the ill effects of tobacco.
A total of 81 patients underwent screening during the camp. Around 58 patients underwent oral prophylaxis, 6 patients underwent GIC restorations, 1 patient underwent extraction and 44 patients were referred to the dental college for further treatment.
