The Gender Sensitization Cell of NUCSER visited the Bhagini Samaj Girls’ Orphanage in Jeppu, Mangalore on International Girl Child Day - 11th October 2025 to raise awareness on sustainable menstrual hygiene and to provide them with essential items necessary for their everyday lives and academics. The orphanage has 55 girls of different age groups under its care and support.
A donation drive was held within the organization in the weeks leading up to the visit. Items such as sanitary napkins and stationery supplies were collected along with monetary donations. A group of 20 student volunteers and members of the Gender Sensitization Cell along with the Director, Prof. Anirban Chakraborty, visited the orphanage. The items collected were handed over to the management of the orphanage.
Ms. Rathan T. Alva, President of Bhagini Samaj, and other members including Ms. Bhanumathi, Ms. Soumya Shetty, Ms. Suhashini and Ms. Mangala, were present. Dr. Gunimala Chakraborty, Chairperson and Dr. Shubha Akshath, Member Secretary, Gender Sensitization Cell coordinated the event.
