News from NUCSER | Water Conservation and Micro Irrigation

Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research (NUCSER) in association with the Dept. of Horticulture, Bantwal, The Netravati Farmers Development Association Union, Bantwal and Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Society, Annalike conducted a program on ‘Water Conservation and Micro Irrigation’ for the farmers at Navashakthi Yuvaka Mandala on 25th November 2025, under the Sustainable Development Goals initiative of the University.

Mr. Chandrappa Moolya & Mr. Raghavendra Bhat, Progressive farmers and Mr. Joe Pradeep D’Souza, Sr. Asst. Director of Horticulture were the resource persons. Farmers, postgraduates, teaching and non-teaching staff of NUCSER attended the program. Mr. Rudesh Poojary, CEO, DK Souharda Swasahaya Sangha welcomed the gathering and gave the opening remarks. Mr. Sylvester D’Souza, President, DK Cooperative Society, inaugurated the program. Dr. Biswajit Maiti, Assoc. Professor, NUCSER enlightened the importance of the sustainable development program and initiatives of Nitte University.

Mr. Chandrappa Moolya drew attention to the pressing water problems and expressed gratitude to the organisers for their meaningful gesture in arranging the water-conservation program in Bantwal. Mr. Raghavendra Bhat explained the processes and technologies used in micro-irrigation, demonstrating components such as micro-jets, filters, drips and related equipment. Mr. Joe Pradeep D’Souza, explained the various methods of water conservation practiced on farms and highlighted the government schemes available to support irrigation initiatives.

Ms. Roopa L Shetty, President, Netravati Farmers Development Association Union proposed the vote of thanks.
