News from NUCSER | International Conference on “Towards Sustainable and Resilient Global Ecosystems: A One Health Approach”

The NITTE-GoK Centre of Excellence in Aquamarine Innovation (NITTE-GoK COE | AQUAMARIN) in association with the Department of Molecular Genetics & Cancer, NUCSER successfully conducted an International Conference titled “Towards Sustainable and Resilient Global Ecosystems: A One Health Approach” on 29th & 30th January 2026. The conference aimed to promote the One Health framework by integrating perspectives from human, animal, plant and environmental health, thereby addressing global challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based dialogue.

The conference was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. K. V. Prakash, an Entrepreneur and Innovator at ADACHI SVIPEGREEN, who emphasized the importance of sustainable industrial innovations in addressing environmental challenges. Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr) Suma Ballal C, Dy. Registrar (Mangalore campus) & Chief Coordinator of the SDG Cell, NitteDU highlighted the relevance of the One Health approach in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. (Dr) Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER.

The scientific programme featured a series of plenary, keynote and lead talks highlighting sustainability through a One Health perspective. Prof. (Dr) Indrani Karunasagar emphasized ecosystem diversity and sustainability, while Mr. K. V. Prakash showcased sustainable industrial innovations. Key discussions addressed microplastics, food safety, antimicrobial resistance, climate change and environmental pollutants, alongside themes of soil, plant, animal and human health.

Experts including Dr. Sougata Bardhan, Dr. Rajesh M. K., Prof. (Dr) Iddya Karunasagar, Dr. Nagappa Karabasanavar and Prof. (Dr) Anirban Chakraborty linked regenerative agriculture, crop resilience, veterinary public health and ecosystem management to global sustainability. Lead talks further explored biofuels, circular-economy approaches and the role of microplastics as vectors of ecological and antimicrobial resistance, underscoring the interconnected nature of environmental and human well-being.

The valedictory session was held on 30th January 2026, with Mr. Dinesh P, Chief General Manager and Head - Human Resources Department, NABARD, Mumbai, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. The well-structured program successfully facilitated interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge exchange among experts from diverse domains. The conference reinforced the significance of the One Health approach as a comprehensive, integrative strategy for addressing challenges across ecosystems, food security, climate change, public health and biotechnology. By bridging science, policy and innovation, the conference contributed meaningfully toward advancing sustainable and resilient global ecosystems. A total of 130 registered participants attended the international conference.
