The Department of Psychiatry, KS Hegde Medical Academy organized a Family Meet on 23rd April 2026 at Chintana Hall for patients undergoing de-addiction treatment and maintaining alcohol abstinence. The program highlighted the importance of abstinence, family support, and community participation in recovery.
The event was inaugurated by Ms. Jacintha Crasta, Nursing Superintendent, Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital, and included sessions by Dr. Pratheeksha Rai, Associate Professor, General Medicine, on the physical health complications of alcohol consumption; Mr. Vivek Pais, Regional Director, SKDRDP, Ujjire on the importance of maintaining abstinence and Mr. Manjunath, Psychiatric Social Worker, KSHEMA on the effects of alcohol on family life.
Patients who successfully completed one year of abstinence were honored with Diyas symbolizing their journey from addiction to recovery. A few patients also shared their inspiring experiences before and after abstinence. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Varsha S., Jr. Resident, Department of Psychiatry, KSHEMA.
