The Department of Pharmacology, NGSMIPS organized a one-day workshop on “Emerging Frontiers in Therapeutics: CAR-T Cell Therapy and Microbiome-Based Medicine” on 17th February 2026.
Mr. Jithin Mathew, Asst. Professor, Pharmacology, welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource person. The scientific sessions were delivered by Dr. Fathima Beegum A, CEO & Founder, RE SEARCH (Academic & Research Consultancy) and Director, Susrusa Healthcare LLP. The workshop provided comprehensive insights into recent advances in CAR-T cell therapy and microbiome-based medicine, two rapidly evolving fields with significant clinical and research potential. The sessions on CAR-T cell therapy covered the fundamentals of chimeric antigen receptor design, target antigen selection, mechanisms of action, clinical applications and challenges associated with cellular immunotherapy. The microbiome-based medicine segment highlighted host-microbiome interactions, microbiome profiling techniques and therapeutic interventions such as probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics and other emerging approaches aimed at personalized healthcare. The workshop incorporated interactive discussions, case-based learning activities, and data interpretation exercises, enabling attendees to relate theoretical concepts to practical and clinical applications.
The program witnessed participation from 82 attendees representing diverse academic backgrounds and institutions, including undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students, Pharm.D students, research scholars, academicians and healthcare professionals. The active involvement of participants enriched the discussions and fostered collaborative learning.
The program concluded with a feedback session followed by the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Prasanna Shama Khandige, HoD, Pharmacology.
