School health check-up programme - KSHEMA
The Department of Community Medicine organized a Health Camp / Outreach Program, "school health check-up programme" on 21-01-2015 at CSI school Mulki.
A school health programme was held in CSI Mulki on 21 January 2015 by Dr Arushi Chopra (Intern in Department of Community Medicine) under the guidance of Dr Savitha (MO,Mulki CHC) and Mr.Santhosh N P Medico social worker, Dept Of Community Medicine KSHEMA .The schools selected were CSI English MediumSchool Karnad ( 1st standard students were examined-29 children) and GPUC Mulki High School Section(8 standard -24 students) . Students were examined for height, weight, personnel hygiene, general physical examination and relevant systemic examination. For children who were suffering from minor health ailments were prescribed the relevant medications. A talk was given on personnel hygiene and good diet.The results were impressive as all most all the children were in best of their health.

Lecture series on ‘Molecular genetics’ - KSHEMA
K.S.Hegde Medical academy, a constituent college of Nitte University in collaboration with Karnataka Science and Technology Academy hosted a Lecture series on ‘Molecular genetics’ on 27,28, 29 of November 2014. Dr A Veena Shetty, Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology and the Organising Secretary of the lecture series received a grant of Rs 1.61 lakhs from Karnataka Science and Technology Academy.
During the Lecture series renowned speakers and scientists delivered talks on cytogenetics, Epigenetics, Clinical genetics and Molecular genetics. A total of 300 delegates, 140 doctors and 160 postgraduates students from various universities attended the lecture series. Karnataka Medical council had credited Six hour credit points to the lecture series.The Lecture series was inaugurated by Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary. Welcome address was delivered by Dr Sucheta Kumari, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr A Veena Shetty. At the end of the lecture series a Multiple choice Questionnaire, quiz was conducted by Dr Prashant Shetty , Coordinator , Diagnostic Centre for Cytogenetics and Molecular genetics, K.S.Hegde Medical Academy. The first prize, cash prize of Rs 10,000 was bagged by Dr Mamatha, PG student in Biochemistry from KMC, Mangalore; second prize cash prize of Rs 6000 by Ms Anupama, PG student in Biomedicine, Nitte university and the third prize, cash prize of Rs 4,000 was bagged by Dr Ashish Agarwal , PG student in Biochemistry, KMC Mangalore.

- ORIENTATION PROGRAMME An Orientation program was organized for the Fresher’s on June 16, 2014 in order to introduce the college campus and the facilities available. Mr. Nagedra P. Katakol, Chairman, Katakal Education Trust, Haveri, was the chief guest.
- The Students’ Council was inaugurated on 8th July 2014 by Prof. Sadashiva Rao, Principal, PPC Udupi
- ‘CHAMMARANA HENDATHI’ a beautiful drama was performed by the team ‘Theatre Samurai’ of the Neenasam Group under the direction of Mr.Sathish Thipatoor on June 25, 2014
- Aurora, an inter class competition, was organized on August 13, 21014 and inaugurated by Mr. Prashantha Holla, Principal, NRAMP Nitte. The grand finale of 14 competitions
- N-IGMA’ an inter collegiate PU Level Fest, held on September 4, 2014. Prof. Rajan V N, Principal of St. Mary’s First Grade College, Shirva during the valedictory function of N-IGMA Fest.
- An Interface: Parent-Teacher and Resource person for PTA Meet Prof. Rolphie Mascarenhas, Director, Kanachuru Academy of General Education, Mangalore was addressing the gathering.
- The Literary association organized Sahithya Samvada on September 26, 2014. Mrs. Jyothi Guru Prasad, a well-known writer from Karkala, was the resource person for the program. During this occasion Ms. Prasudha Shetty from I B Com (B), Ms. Bhagyashree from I B. Sc, Ms. Nisha from I B. Sc, Ms. Deeksha from III BBM, Ms. Nishmitha III B. Com (B) recited self composed poetry.
- Ms. Reshael Eva Cardoza of II BBM bagged third prize in English Elocution competition held at Sri Gokarnanatheshwar College, Mangalore on September 8, 2014
- Mr. Syed Akmum of II B Com (A), Mr. Abdul Moumin of II B Com (A) and Mr. Elroy Sidney D’ souza of II B Com(A) bagged the third prize in the State Level Quiz Competition held at Rosario College of Management Studies, Mangalore on September 11, 2014
- The NSS unit, Youth Red Cross Association and JCI Belman jointly organized a blood donation camp on August 2, 2014. In this camp, 60 students donated blood.

‘Is Tibet a core issue in Sino Indian relationship?’ Seminar at NICO
‘Tibetans want decision making power’
Minister of Tibetan Department of Information and international relations Dicki Choyyang urged genuine autonomy for Tibet.
Addressing the seminar on ‘Is Tibet a core issue in Sino Indian relationship?’ organized by Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and Tibetan Student Association which was held in NIBF auditorium of Nitte University she said ‘All Tibetans should be in one administration like Mongolians. They want decision making power in the areas like education, religion, security, natural resources.’
‘People of Tibet are not asking independence but they are seeking autonomy as guarantee. In Tibet there is no democratic environment like India. People are tortured because of raising the voice about their own land’ she said.
‘The Tibetan plateau has very rich eco system. It is the source of Asia’s major rivers. These rivers provide water to half of the world’s population. But now the plateau has absolutely unrestrained constructions of water dams on rivers such as Brahmaputra, Yellow rivers which will significantly impact the livelihood of the downstream including India.’ the minister added.
‘The ties between India and Tibet go back thousands of years. Tibetan system of medicine is inspired by Ayurveda, In 10th century Tibetan Buddhism got religion renaissance through India. Tibetan writing system was derived by Gupta script. Indians also fought for Tibetan issue. Now there is an urgency to educate Indian youths’ said Chhoyang in her address.
Honorable registrar, Nitte University, Dr. M.S Moodithaya opined ‘Globalization has opened up many opportunities, at the same time it has posed several challenges like sovereignty of nations. In this situation living with dignity in our own land is very critical’.
‘Tibetan students who have studied in India are serving in different areas. Nitte University is with Tibetans and it will extend all the possible support to them’ he said.
Directorate of curriculum Dr. M. Rajashekar, HoD of Nitte institution of Communication Prof. Rakesh Katarey, Vice president of Tibetan Student Association E.H. Dolma, the president of student council Ms. Kushbu Mishra were present in the seminar.

INSTITUTIONAL DAY CELEBRATION -2015 - NUINS
The annual day celebrations of NUINS (Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences) was held on 21st February Saturday in KSHEMA auditorium at 4pm. Chief guests for the evening were Mrs. Irene Veigas , Principal Sahyadri College of Nursing Mangalore, and Guest of honour was Dr. MS Moodithaya, Registrar, Nitte University. Mrs. Sabitha Nayak, Vice Principal CON welcomed the gathering. In her speech the Chief Guest mentioned that a nurse is a unique member in the health care field, where nurses’ empathy and attitude will invoke strength and courage in patient and raise their will power which can lead to faster healing. Prof. Mrs. Fatima D’Silva, Principal College of Nursing, read the annual report of institution 2014.
Along with the academic toppers and student achievers in field of Cultural, Sports, Hobbies, best outgoing students Ms. Albiya T.s, Ms. Joshma and Mrs. Ashwini K.V from BSc(N), G.N.M & P.B.BSc(N) were also honoured on the occasion. The formal function concluded with Vote of Thanks by Mrs. Cleeta Pinto, Principal, School of Nursing. The program was hosted by Ms. Joyce Mable, Asst. Lecturer. A splendid cultural programme from students followed by live music orchestra by Shades was performed after the formal stage programme.
The entire program was planned & monitored under the able leadership Mr. Vallesh R. Shetty & his team.

Rendezvous Revolution - SAROSH
The National Inter-collegiate cultural event, Rendezvous 2014 was conducted on 12th of August 2014. The event was hosted by the students of III semester BHM for PUC and Undergraduate students from various colleges in and around Mangalore. Thirteen colleges participated in the event. The winners were students from Mahesh PU College in the PU level and participants from Oriental College of Hotel Management, Takkidi (Kerala) in the Degree level category.
BEACONS 2015 - NICO
Mangaluru 15, Feb 2015: Dance with dhamaka… fun with pen… cameras with dreams… and at the end of it, St Aloysius Degree College won Nitte University’s Beacons Trophy for the second successive year.
Beacons– 2015, an inter-college fest of media was conducted by Nitte University’s Department of Mass Communication and Journalism that concluded here yesterday. Besides St Aloysius, students from all the leading first grade colleges from Dakshina Kannada and Kerala including St. Agnes College, Canara College, Alva’s College and Indus College participated in the event.
Dr. Nitin Acharya well known singer, musician and alumni, A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences inaugurated the festival here on February 12, 2015. Dr.Acharya called upon students to harness the energy within them to unleash their true potential. “To achieve success in your lives, work on your potentials and develop a taste for other aspects,” Nitin said. Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Registrar, Nitte University, emphasized that “Success is a product of idea, implementation and the impact.
Students may have an idea but if the idea is not implemented properly we cannot get the impact.” “Countries like US, Korea, organizations like Microsoft, and persons such as Mahatma Gandhi and Bill Gates did not stop at ideas only. They implemented very well and generated impact also” he added. Declaring the festival open, Prof Rakesh Katarey, Head, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Nitte University, said, “Events at Beacons were a symbiosis of fun and learning bringing academics and entertainment on one platform.” In the evening Chali Polilu film director, Veerendra Shetty distributed the prizes to the winners at various competitions. Faculty coordinator of Beacons 2015, Ms.Deekshitha R, Ms. Khushbu Mishra, President, Student Council were also present at the event.

Alumni Meet Report - NSAMFGCB
On the 7th of February 2015, Dr. NSAM First Grade College, Bangalore had its Alumni Meet after a gap of 5 years. The initiative was taken by Ms. Bhagya, the Vice Principal and Mr. Rame Gowda our Faculty Member who is also an alumnus of the college. Senior faculty members took the responsibility of inviting different batches of students from the last 15 years.
Registrations began by 3.30 p.m. and went on till 5.30 p.m. with many of our ex students coming in from work. All were welcomed with a glass of refreshing lime juice. The final count was approximately 300 students.
The evening’s programme commenced with an invocation followed by lighting of the lamp by the College Coordinator Col. B.V Ramachandra, the College Principal Dr. Meera Krishnappa, ex staff members of the college and an ex student of the college.
The Vice Principal Ms. Bhagya then welcomed the gathering. In her welcome address, she traced the humble beginnings of the college and the initial hardships faced by the founder Principal Prof. Victor to lay the foundations of the college. Col. Ramachandra then addressed the alumni and urged them to motivate others to join the college. He stated that such Alumni Meets should be held annually so that ex-students are able to revisit their alma mater and see the changes that have occurred.
The Principal Dr. Meera Krishnappa then shared her thoughts. She stated that the overwhelming response was encouraging and stressed the fact that the Alumni were the brand ambassadors of the college and that they should market the college in their own way. She also promised to hold the Alumni Meet every year.
It was then time for some of the ex students to share their thoughts. 3 of the current Final Year students also spoke about their experiences in the college.
The batch of 2000 presented the college with a gift. The formal part of the programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms. Hemavathi, senior faculty. The programme continued with the entertainment by our current students. There were songs and dances to regale the audience. A moving presentation with old photographs by Anuradha of Final BBM brought back nostalgic memories and was well appreciated by the Alumni.
The ex students then took over with their banter and impromptu interviews of the old students and staff. A delicious refreshment of vegetable pulao, raita, vadas and dry jamoon with tea/coffee gave the evening a fitting finale.

NMAMIT students won FIRST place at Ankur-2015 (National Level B-Plan Competition)
Ankur-2015 is a National Level B-Plan Competition organised by the Institute of Public Enterprise, Shameerpet, and Hyderabad. More than 85 colleges from all over India had sent their proposals but only 10 were selected for the grand finale in Hyderabad. Our student's proposal WASP got selected and they went for the finals on 20th February, 2015 and managed to grab the 1st prize.

A report by the participants:
We reached Hyderabad on 19th February, 2015 after preparing well for the grand finale. The event was on 20th February, 2015 so we had one more day for our final preparation which we used well. On 20th February, we took IPE’s college bus from Medhipatnam and reached the venue at 9:00am. We registered ourselves and waited for the event to start. The inauguration started at 10:30am. Prof. H Hemanth Rao, Dean of IPE welcomed the gathering. Then Dr. Prarthana Kumar, Coordinator of Ankur spoke about Ankur and how it started. Rules of the game were told by Mr. Anubhav Tiwari, Student Coordinator of Ankur. After the inauguration there was a small tea break and then we started with the presentations. We sat patiently and listened to every presentation carefully. Each team was given 15 minutes for speaking and 5 minutes for Questions & Answers by Jury members. Most of the participants were Law, Business or Finance students. Our presentation went very well and Q&A round was satisfactory.
We were waiting with our fingers crossed and when our name was called for the first prize, we jumped with joy. We received a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 as our first prize. The jury member consisted of V. Ramana, scientist and angel funder, Hema Jain, CEO of CRUX and Nanditha Sethi, Founder of Ankur. We returned on 21st February, 2015 with lots of good experience and determination to build our own product. We thank our college authorities for supporting us and especially Prof. Shalini K. Sharma, Dr. C Vaman Rao and Prof. R K Sharma for guiding us. We hope to achieve many more laurels and bring honour to our college.

Activities at NSAM English Medium school Nitte
Leadership Camp
Our 4 students of class VIII –m Nidhi, Pragathi, Wilton, Nishan, attended Spoorthi a Leadership Camp organised by Sharadha Vidyalaya at Talapady accompanied with their teacher Shree Mudradi.
Student Activity : An Awareness Program
On 1st December, World Aids Day class VIII & IX students were given an awareness talks on AIDS by Srivalli H and Anil Kumar.
Workshops
Resource Persons from Ramakrishna Ashram, Bailur conducted a workshop on Personality Development for class X on 3rd Jan. Stress & Fear management for class X on 5th Jan, 2015 and Examination Preparation on 20th Feb for class IX.
Radio Program
Class VII students under the training of Mrs. Jayanthi Suvarna had 2 radio recordings on 16/01/2015 at A.I.R. Mangalore. The topics were Children's Right to Education and Lokhada Bolpu. It was aired on 31st Jan, 2015.
School Band Set : Our Band set children had the good fortune of rendering their services on 16th Jan for the March Past at the National Level Inter University Athletic Meet held at the new synthetic ground at Moodabidri.
Rewards for 'I CAN' :
The two winning teams of a unique Project Called 'I CAN' received a hamper of 'Amar Chithra Katha books from the organisers, River Side School Ahmedabad. The school received cheques of Rs. 5000/- for each winning team.
External Exams:
In the Chinthana Maths Puraskar one of our student Sachin S Shenoy of class II secured a National Level Rank. Other State, District and Taluk Level Medals were also distributed to several students on 17/2/2015.
Scouts & Guides Trekking: Our Scouts & Guides on 6th Feb. 2015, went out on a trek with their Scouts & Guide teachers - Shree Mudradi & Shashipal Hegde and Sujatha Devadiga. The steep climb using ropes at places took them an hour and half. But hoisting the flag at the top of the mountain gave them immense satisfaction. A competition of Cooking without Fire was also held. Creative ideas came up.
Submission of Projects:
6 teams of our school in class VIII worked for 3 months in 2014.15 for their Nitte Hutchie Challenge Project, on one of the Millennium Global Topics - "Climatic Change, Man Responsible" after having researched, analysed, created awareness in local areas, documented and finally submitted their Project to the Hutchie Team when they recently visited Nitte from 9th Feb to 14th Feb 2015. These Projects will be assessed by our Partner School in Scotland and the winning team receive an all paid weeklong visit to Glasgow.
Farewell:
We bid Adieu to our class X (2014-15) batch on 14th Feb. Our Special Guests on the occasion were our Scottish friends from Hutchesons' Grammar School, Scotland. Fun games, a farewell gift of a clock, signifying Time and Tide Waits for None was given and a sumptuous lunch was served. The Principal Mrs. Neeta Kishore’s Farewell Message through a story highlighted the importance of being dynamic and not static in life.
Our 4 students of class VIII –m Nidhi, Pragathi, Wilton, Nishan, attended Spoorthi a Leadership Camp organised by Sharadha Vidyalaya at Talapady accompanied with their teacher Shree Mudradi.
Student Activity : An Awareness Program
On 1st December, World Aids Day class VIII & IX students were given an awareness talks on AIDS by Srivalli H and Anil Kumar.
Workshops
Resource Persons from Ramakrishna Ashram, Bailur conducted a workshop on Personality Development for class X on 3rd Jan. Stress & Fear management for class X on 5th Jan, 2015 and Examination Preparation on 20th Feb for class IX.
Radio Program
Class VII students under the training of Mrs. Jayanthi Suvarna had 2 radio recordings on 16/01/2015 at A.I.R. Mangalore. The topics were Children's Right to Education and Lokhada Bolpu. It was aired on 31st Jan, 2015.
School Band Set : Our Band set children had the good fortune of rendering their services on 16th Jan for the March Past at the National Level Inter University Athletic Meet held at the new synthetic ground at Moodabidri.
Rewards for 'I CAN' :
The two winning teams of a unique Project Called 'I CAN' received a hamper of 'Amar Chithra Katha books from the organisers, River Side School Ahmedabad. The school received cheques of Rs. 5000/- for each winning team.
Scouts & Guides Trekking: Our Scouts & Guides on 6th Feb. 2015, went out on a trek with their Scouts & Guide teachers - Shree Mudradi & Shashipal Hegde and Sujatha Devadiga. The steep climb using ropes at places took them an hour and half. But hoisting the flag at the top of the mountain gave them immense satisfaction. A competition of Cooking without Fire was also held. Creative ideas came up.
Submission of Projects:
6 teams of our school in class VIII worked for 3 months in 2014.15 for their Nitte Hutchie Challenge Project, on one of the Millennium Global Topics - "Climatic Change, Man Responsible" after having researched, analysed, created awareness in local areas, documented and finally submitted their Project to the Hutchie Team when they recently visited Nitte from 9th Feb to 14th Feb 2015. These Projects will be assessed by our Partner School in Scotland and the winning team receive an all paid weeklong visit to Glasgow.
Farewell:
We bid Adieu to our class X (2014-15) batch on 14th Feb. Our Special Guests on the occasion were our Scottish friends from Hutchesons' Grammar School, Scotland.
