Nitte University has bagged the prestigious SAKURA Exchange Program award

Nitte University has bagged the prestigious SAKURA Exchange Program award for this year through a joint project proposal submitted by Dr. Harish Kumar Madhyastha from the University of Miyazaki, Japan and Dr. Anirban Chakraborty from Biomedical Science, Centre for Science Education and Research, Nitte University. This program is funded by Japan Science and Technology Agency under the framework of Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science.

SAKURA Exchange Program in Science is aimed at enhancing exchange of youths between Asian countries and Japan. Under this program, JST facilitates short-term visits of competent Asian youths to Japan, who will play a crucial role in the field of science and technology of their country through close collaboration of industry-academia-government. The selected Asian youths get a chance to learn about the leading Japanese technologies at Japanese universities, research institutions and private companies.



Dr. Anirban, the Indian Coordinator for the program, with the team of eleven from Nitte University which includes four faculty members and seven students from the Biomedical Science, Nitte University, will be visiting the University of Miyazaki, Japan between October 3 - 20, 2015 to undergo extensive training in cutting edge techniques such as Flow cytometry and Fluoresence activated cell sorting, Neuronal cell culture, MALDI-TOF, Advances in electron microscopy and Bio-implants. They will also be participating in an International Conference on Arsenic pollution during the visit. In addition to learning science, the participants will also get a glimpse of Japanese culture and tradition through various activities included in the program. The Deputy Chief-of-Mission at the Embassy of India, Tokyo, Mr. Amit Kumar will be the guest of honor at the valedictory function. This recognition to Nitte University is the culmination of a series of discussions that started between the University of Miyazaki Coordinator and the primary awardee, Dr. Harish Kumar Madhyastha, and the Director of R&D, Nitte University, Dr. Indrani Karunasagar during the former’s visit to Mangaluru in January this year and a subsequent visit of the Indian coordinator, Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, to University of Miyazaki, Japan during April this year. Discussions on initiation of joint research programs in health science will be a part of the agenda during this trip. A Memorandum of Agreement between the two Universities will be signed in Mangalore during January 2016, by the Vice-Chancellor, Nitte University and the Rector, University of Miyazaki.
