World Breastfeeding Week 2016 - KSHEMA

The Department of Paediatrics celebrated, "World Breastfeeding Week 2016" on 03-08-2016 at K S Hegde Charitable Hospital. Theme for this year Breastfeeding: "A key to Sustainable Development”

Department of Pediatrics organized an awareness program under the guidance of Dr Vijaya Shenoy, Prof & HOD of Paediatrics. The inaugural function was held on the 3rd of August with Prof Dr Prakash P S, Head of Dept. of Medicine as the Chief Guest. Prof Dr Sumanth Shetty welcomed the gathering and spoke on the theme of the program for the year 2016. Dr Smrithi Sinha Asst. Professor, Dept of Paediatrics, Dr Prashanth Kumar , Asst. Professor, Dept of Paediatrics discussed the theme & goals for sustainable development . Dr Krishna Priya, Asst. Prof. OBGYN spoke on lactation failure. & Ms Sabiatha Nayak Hod of Nursing college discussed the technique of breast feeding. Dr Prijo Philip, Sr. Resident of Paediatrics proposed the vote of thanks. The program was attended by the staff and students of the Medical, Nursing and Dental colleges. As a part of the ongoing celebration a street play was organized at NATEKAL PRIMARY HEALTH center by undergraduates, keeping in mind the present year’s theme and also to raise awareness about benefits of breast feeding As a conclusion to this years breast feeding week a street play was performed in the hospital premises by undergraduate students of KSHEMA In addition, an awareness programme was convened and conducted by Dr Dhrithiman Shetty, Sr. Resident, Dept of Paediatrics in the satellite center of KSHEMA, where interactive sessions with mothers helped underscore the importance and benefits of breast feeding. The program was well covered by the print and electronic media. Dr Swathi Rao, assistant Professor of Pediatrics gave a live interactive interview in the local TV network.
