The Department of Pharmaceutics, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organized a workshop on “Case based study – An active learning” on 19th March, 2018 at the University Auditorium, Paneer campus, Deralakatte, Mangalore.
Dr. Amruthesh C Shivachar, Assoc. Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Texas Southern University, Houston an experienced and erudite scholar on the subject was the resource person. Dr. Shivachar is a proponent and staunch votary of transformation of teaching methodology from passive learning to active case based learning, owing to the striking advantages it offers in making learning lively and result oriented. This paradigm shift in education delivery according to Dr. Shivachar, will instill the spirit of collaborative learning in students. “Do not compete, but collaborate” is his philosophy.
Dr. Shivachar’s workshop offered the students an actual ‘hands-on’ opportunity where the students experienced the active learning system. Students of final year B.Pharm, Pharm.D and first year M.Pharm participated in the workshop. Each student was given a voting pad and the results were displayed real time on the screen for self assessment.The workshop was highly appreciated by the students and faculty. In the post lunch session, Dr. Shivachar had an engaging interaction with the teaching faculty and research scholars.
Dr. Narayana Charyulu, Vice Principal and HoD,Pharmaceutics introduced the resource person to the gathering. He emphasized on the importance of adapting to the highly effective system of active learning and wished the same to be a reality soon across the institutions. Dr. Marina Koland conveyed the Welcome address and Dr. Akhilesh Dubey delivered the Vote of thanks.
