A Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) Training program was conducted at NUCSER on 15th & 16th March 2019. The training which was a basic FSMS level-2 covered Food Safety and Standards, Licensing and Regulation, GLP, GHP and GMP advanced level and HACCP. The training program also had interactive sessions with brain teasing activities and communication improvement.
Dr. Harsha Halahalli, Director (Curriculum Development), Nitte (DU) was the Chief Guest for the inaugural function. Mr. Subin Jose, Trainer & National Level Resource Person-FSSAI was the Guest of Honor and resource person for the training program. Prof. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director R & D, Nitte (DU) presided over the inaugural ceremony which was also graced by Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Dy. Director, NUCSER, Nitte (DU). Dr. Mamatha BS, Asst. Professor, NUCSER, welcomed the gathering and briefed about the training program. Dr. Harsha Halahalli, spoke on the importance of food safety and also highlighted on outbreaks due to poor management of food chain. Prof. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, in her presidential address focused on the importance of potable water and its exposure to pollutants and effluents, leading to product contamination. She also highlighted the importance of training, where practical approach is important along with the theoretical knowledge. Mr. Subin Jose formally addressed the gathering by sharing his experiences through his long dealt career and the problem of food safety in India. He highlighted the important role and the immediate requirement for food regulators trained in food safety management. Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Ishani Bhat hosted the inaugural program. As many as 35 participants including employees of Mangalore Biotech Lab and post-graduation students from Mangalore University and Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research took part in the training program. At the end of the training, participants were tested for their knowledge acquired during the training and were assessed. Qualified participants were awarded with completion certificates.
