News from MRSMEMHS | Capacity Building Program on Health and Wellness

In alignment with the CBSE’s commitment to holistic education, a two-day Capacity Building Program on Health and Wellness was successfully conducted in the school premises on 22nd & 23rd August 2025. The sessions were facilitated by resource persons Mr. Girish Kumar, Principal, Podar International School, Mangalore and Mr. Suresh Mahalingpur, Principal, Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidyamandir, Mangalore.

The program brought together 60 educators from diverse institutions including Dr. MRSMEMHS, Alfurquan English Medium School (Mangalore), NITK English Medium School (Surathkal), Peace Public School (Mangalore) and Sri Sharada Central School (Shimanthoor). Their enthusiastic participation reflected a shared commitment to nurturing student wellbeing across academic spaces.

News from MRSMEMHS | AICS Cross Country Race: Stride with Pride

The spirit of endurance and unity echoed through the hills and roads, as our school proudly hosted the AICS Cross Country Race – Stride with Pride on 21st August 2025. The event saw an enthusiastic participation of 171 students from 27 schools, making it a memorable celebration of athleticism and camaraderie.

The 6-kilometre course challenged runners with a scenic yet demanding route that spanned Bhattakodi, Nadugodu, Balavina Gudde, Suragiri, Pakshikere and Hosakadu, culminating at the school grounds. The race was divided into four competitive categories:
Under 17 Boys | Under 17 Girls | Under 14 Boys | Under 14 Girls

To ensure a smooth and secure experience for all participants, marshals were stationed along the route, guiding runners and cheering them on. The event was further supported by ambulance services, physiotherapists from Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy and local police personnel to manage traffic and ensure safety.

The race was judged by a distinguished panel comprising of Dr. Ganesh Poojary, Physical Education Director, NMAMIT, Nitte; Dr. Nithin, Physical Education Director, NSAMFGC, Nitte; Mr. Rajesh Acharya, Cricket Coach, NMAMIT, Nitte & Mr. Santhosh, Swimming Coach, NITK, Surathkal.

The event concluded with a vibrant valedictory ceremony, where winners were felicitated and all participants were applauded for their grit and sportsmanship.

News from NICO | Debate on Media Accountability and Substance Use

As part of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, the Nitte Institute of Communication organized a Debate Competition on the topic ‘Should the media be legally held accountable for glamorizing substance use in entertainment content?’ on 16th August 2025 at the Paneer Campus.

A total of ten participants actively engaged in a thought-provoking discussion. The debate witnessed well researched arguments both for and against the motion, emphasizing the diverse perspectives on the role and responsibility of media in shaping public attitudes towards substance use. The event was judged by Jayanth Kodkani, Adjunct Faculty, NICO, who appreciated the participant’s efforts and shared valuable insights. The competition, coordinated by Sanrita Madtha, Faculty In-Charge under the guidance of Prof. Dr. P.V. Satya Prasad, Head, NICO, highlighted student’s critical thinking and raised awareness on the social impact of media portrayals on society.







News from NIPT | Onam celebration - MELAM 2025

Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy organized Onam celebration - MELAM 2025 on 26th August 2025 at KS Hegde Auditorium.  The event began with banner revealing followed by Thiruvathira performance by the students. Traditional games reflecting cultural diversity were organized, allowing students to showcase their skills. For the faculty, a musical chairs competition was held, adding fun and liveliness to the festive atmosphere. The celebration concluded with a Uriyadi competition. The prizes for the winners were distributed by Dr. Diker Dev Joshi P.T, Associate Professor, Padmashree Institute of Physiotherapy, Bangalore.




News from NIA | Photogrammetry as a Tool for Heritage Preservation by Ar. Ragul Ravichandran

As part of the NIA Conversations series, Ar. Ragul Ravichandran, founder of Vaayil, A Doorway, delivered a lecture on “Scan the Sacred: Photogrammetry as a Tool for Heritage Preservation” at NIA. He shared his personal journey and the inspiration that led him to pursue the field of heritage documentation and digital preservation. Over the past five years, he has documented more than 194 heritage structures across India - temples, stepwells, tanks, shrines and other endangered sites using a hybrid methodology that combines traditional techniques with advanced digital tools. During the session, he showcased fascinating case studies, including 3D models and scaled prototypes of documented structures, which deeply engaged both students and faculty. He also introduced the audience to various digital techniques and software tools such as photogrammetry, drone mapping and 3D modeling, explaining step-by-step how each is applied and which methods are most suitable for different building types and environments. His work, which has supported initiatives like the UNESCO World Heritage nomination for the Hoysala temples, exemplifies how technology can bridge the gap between tradition and modern conservation practice. The lecture was not only technically insightful but also inspiring, sensitizing students to the importance of preserving cultural heritage through innovative documentation methods.



News from NIPT | Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was organized by the NSS unit II of Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy (NIPT) on 23rd August 2025.

Resource person, Ms. Pamidigantam Raghava Priya, Counsellor, Nitte DU Student Wellness Centre conducted a session on substance abuse, which was highly informative and relevant. She cited real life examples that helped the students understand the seriousness of substance abuse and its impact on health, academics and personal life. This was followed by a Q&A session.

Dr. Mahima Banjan, Coordinator, NSS unit II welcomed the resource person. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Muznah, Student Council Member, NSS-Unit II who also compered the event.

News from ABSMIDS | Free anti-tobacco awareness and oral health awareness camp

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences in association with the Indian Cancer Society, conducted a free anti-tobacco awareness and oral health awareness camp at Government High School, Permannur on 22.08.2025. Oral health and oral cancer awareness was provided, emphasizing on the ill effects of tobacco, the influence of tobacco industry on children and measures to protect children from the ill effects of tobacco. A total of 88 school children attended the awareness talk.



News from NSAMPUCM | Independence Day

The 79th c was celebrated with a patriotic fervor at Dr. NSAM PU College, Nanthoor. The celebration began with the ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag by Sri. Sudhir Pai, Senior Officer of the Indian navy. To mark the spirit of the occasion, the students presented a graceful welcome dance, which beautifully blended culture and patriotism.

Sri Sudhir Pai emphasized the importance of students setting clear goals in life, stating, “India has groomed today into the fourth largest economic power in the world. There is no doubt that the glorious India of the future will grow into the largest power in the world. On this occasion, it is our primary duty to remember the sacrifices made by our elders who brought independence to the country. Let us also remember the soldiers guarding our borders”. He further emphasized that students with a clear vision become the true strength of the nation.

Dr. Naveen Shetty K, Principal, remarked that Independence Day is celebrated beyond all barriers of caste, creed and religion. He urged students to realize that freedom offers equal opportunities not only to shape their own future but also to contribute to nation-building.

On this occasion, Sri Sudhir Pai was honoured for his dedicated service to the nation.

Ms. Chaitra welcomed the gathering, Mrs. Divya Vishal proposed a vote of thanks and Mrs. Shraddha compered the program.




News from NSAMPUC, Mangaluru | World Sanskrit Day

World Sanskrit Day was celebrated on 9th August 2025 at Dr. NSAM PU College, Nanthoor. The celebration was graced by Vidwan Murari Tantri, Sanskrit teacher from Canara High School, Urwa, Mangaluru, who addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of Sanskrit as a scientific language.

In his insightful address, Vidwan Tantri emphasized that the ancient wisdom of India is deeply rooted in Sanskrit. He explained that world Sanskrit Day is observed globally on the full moon day of Shravana, in memory of Maharshi Panini, the father of Sanskrit grammar. He highlighted the scientific nature of the language, noting that even NASA scientists consider Sanskrit highly suitable for computers. Referring to ancient texts, he illustrated how concepts such as planetary movements, the speed of sunlight and astrological calculations were precisely documented in Sanskrit, reaffirming its relevance to modern science.

The event was presided over by Dr. Naveen Shetty K Principal, who described Sanskrit as “The mother of all languages”. He expressed happiness that many students are showing interest in learning Sanskrit today. He further remarked that the study of Sanskrit opens a window to India’s rich cultural and intellectual heritage, inspiring the younger generation to appreciate its importance.

On this occasion, Srujan Ganesh, a Sanskrit achiever from the previous academic year, was felicitated.

The event was coordinated by Sri Ravishankar Hegde, Head, Sanskrit Department.





News from ABSMIDS | Free dental treatment camp

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences in association with Rotary Club, Surathkal and Mahila Mandala, Kulai conducted a free dental treatment camp at the Mahila Mandala on 24.08.2025. Oral health awareness was provided.

A total of 26 patients were screened during the camp. 14 patients underwent oral prophylaxis, 15 patients underwent restorations, 1 patient underwent extraction and 6 patients were referred to AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences for further treatment.




News from NISH | Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan

An awareness session on Drug Abuse was conducted for the first-year undergraduate and postgraduate students on 23rd August 2025 at Chinthana Hall, K S Hegde Hospital under the framework of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan campaign. The session was led by Ms. Pamidigantam Raghava Priya, Lecturer & Counsellor at K S Hegde Medical Academy. The talk aimed to sensitize students about drug abuse, commonly abused substances - depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens, opioids and inhalants and highlighting that drug abuse refers to the harmful or excessive non-medical use of such substances.

Students of Dr. NSAM English Medium High School participated in the 15th James Naismith League Basketball Tournament 2025 held at U Srinivas Mallya Stadium, Mangalore from 21st to 24th August 2025 and secured the following positions:

1. Senior Girls Team emerged as Runners Up.
2. Junior Girls Team bagged the 2nd Runner Up
3. Junior Boys Team bagged the 2nd Runner Up

The tournament featured top teams from Bangalore, Mangalore and Udupi. We congratulate our players for their tremendous team spirit.

News from NRAMP | Celebrating 79th Independence Day at Nitte Campus

Nitte Group of Institutions in Nitte Campus jointly celebrated 79th Independence Day on 15th August 2025 in the quadrangle area of Nitte Rukmini Adyanthaya Memorial Polytechnic College, Nitte. Chief guest, Prof. Prashanth Kumar, former Principal of NRAMP hoisted the National flag. He briefly explained the history of the germination of the freedom struggle and how the day is to be celebrated in memory of the sacrifices of our freedom fighters. Shri. A Yogeesh Hegde, Director (Campus Maintenance & Development) delivered the presidential remarks. NCC cadets of NMAMIT & Dr.NSAM High School, Scouts / Guides, Security guards and Staff members actively participated in the event.

News from NMAMIT | Anti-Ragging Week

NMAM Institute of Technology observed ‘Anti-Ragging Week’ with a formal program organised on 12th August 2025 both in the institute and hostel premises, to spread awareness among students about the ill effects of ragging and to reinforce a safe and respectful campus culture.

Mr. Prasanna M S, Sub-Inspector, Karkala Rural Police Station addressed the gathering and cautioned students against indulging in ragging & substance abuse, stressing the strict legal consequences it involves. Dr. Niranjan Chiplunkar, Principal highlighted the institute’s commitment towards ensuring a ragging-free campus and encouraged students to uphold mutual respect and friendship. Dr. Nagesh Prabhu, Vice Principal spoke on the importance of fostering a healthy peer environment. Prof. Yogeesh Hegde, Director (CMD) reiterated the institute’s policies and measures in place, to curb ragging.

Dr. Vishwanath, Chief Warden, Gents Hostels welcomed the gathering and briefed about the significance of the program. The event was compered by Dr. Vishwanath J.S., Warden of Block 2, NMAMIT Gents Hostel. A total of 500 students participated in the awareness program.
