The Red Cross Unit of NRAM Polytechnic hosted a meeting of the Anti-Drugs Committee on 11th August 2025.
Sri. Ganesh Naik S, Red Cross Unit Program Coordinator welcomed the gathering and emphasised the importance of a drug-free campus for academic & personal growth of students and the need for collective effort to ensure a safe, supportive environment.
Sri. Vishwanathan K, Principal, chaired the meeting and guided the discussions on strengthening the Anti-Drugs Committee’s role in maintaining a safe, drug-free campus. He emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring a drug-free campus and urged everyone to actively support the initiatives of the Anti-Drugs Committee.
Sri. Rudresh Gowda from Karkala Police Station elaborated on the legal consequences of drug consumption and possession of drugs. He assured the college of full support from the Police Department in conducting awareness campaigns, counselling sessions and surveillance measures to curb drug-related activities.
Sri. Venkataraman Prasad, HoD, Mechanical Engg. & Anti-Drugs Committee Coordinator presented the objectives, structure & operational guidelines of the Anti-Drugs Committee. He emphasized strict prohibition of narcotic substances on campus, the importance of regular awareness programs in collaboration with local authorities and the implementation of an anonymous reporting system. He mentioned that first-time offenders would be counselled, while repeated violations would invite strict disciplinary action.
The meeting discussed ways to build student confidence in reporting drug-related concerns without fear of retaliation, including assigning faculty mentors to each department for approachable & confidential guidance and forming a student volunteer wing to actively engage in awareness and monitoring efforts. The Committee resolved to circulate the Anti-Drugs policy document to all students and staff, schedule the first awareness program within two weeks and invite the Police Department for a joint campus inspection in September.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by the coordinator, marking a step forward in strengthening the college’s commitment to a drug-free environment.
