The Technical Club of Nitte Rukmini Adyanthaya Memorial Polytechnic inaugurated its activities for the academic year 2025-26 on 12th August 2025. The inauguration marked the beginning of a series of knowledge-sharing sessions aimed at enhancing students’ technical and creative skills.
Prof. (Dr) Radhakrishna, Head, Dept. of Computer & Communication Engineering, NMAMIT., spoke about the need for students to stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends. He stressed the significance of innovation, adaptability and continuous learning in building a successful career, motivating students to utilize the Technical Club as a space for experimenting with ideas and developing technical expertise.
Following the inaugural session, the first technical talk titled “Innovation and Design Thinking” was delivered by the resource person, Sri. Mohan Poojari, Asst. Professor, Mechanical Engineering, NMAMIT. He explained the concept of creativity and how it forms the foundation for both invention and innovation. Using clear examples, he differentiated between invention ‘the creation of something entirely new’ and innovation, ‘the improvement or creative adaptation of existing ideas, products or processes’. He introduced the principles of design thinking, explaining each step-in detail - empathize, define, ideate, prototype & test and emphasized the importance of understanding user needs, generating multiple solutions and testing ideas in real-world scenarios. The audience was engaged through practical examples, including the application of design thinking concepts in various fields, such as product development and problem-solving in engineering contexts. To make the session more relatable, he shared a real-world example from the field of cybersecurity, explaining how design thinking can be applied to create innovative security solutions for digital systems. His interactive approach and relevant case studies inspired students to think beyond conventional methods and apply creative problem-solving techniques in their future projects.
