The Technical Club of NRAM Polytechnic, Nitte organized an insightful session on “Nautical Precision: The Skill of Ship Modelling” on 3rd September 2025.
Dr. Shivaprasad Shetty, Professor, Dept. of Chemistry, NMAMIT, Nitte was the resource person for the event. He highlighted the importance of precision in ship designing and modelling, stressing how it combines elements of science, engineering and creativity. He also spoke about the historical development of ship models and their significance in both research and naval architecture.
In the second half of the session, the topic was further explained by his associate fellow students, who demonstrated different aspects of ship modelling techniques. They elaborated on the materials used, the scale of models and the importance of hydrodynamics in the process. Their detailed explanations made the technical aspects easy to understand. The session was highly interactive, with participants raising questions about the challenges involved in ship modelling, its scope in engineering education and its role in modern marine technology. The combination of expert insights and student-led presentations created a collaborative learning atmosphere.
