On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, the NSS and Youth Red Cross (YRC) units of Nitte Institute of Speech and Hearing organized a free Speech & Hearing Camp on 4th October 2025, for the inmates & staff of Better Life Old Age Home, Mannagudda. The theme for this year’s observance was “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-being, Our Rights,” emphasizing the valuable role that older persons play in society and the need to ensure their dignity and inclusion.
Speech & hearing screening services were extended to the residents & staff of the home, aiming to identify communication & hearing difficulties and promote awareness regarding speech and hearing health in old age.
After completion of the screening, the students interacted with the elderly members, engaging them in conversations and some fun activities.
A fundraising drive was organised as part of the initiative to support the old-age home residents. Contributions from students and staff, along with support from the YRC and NSS units, were utilised to purchase essential items for the home. A monetary contribution was also made towards purchasing an electric wheelchair.
