News from NUCSER | International Symposium on Systems Immunology at NUCSER

NUCSER, in association with Stem Cell Lab, KSHEMA organized an International Symposium on ‘Understanding the dynamic interplay of genes, pathogens and host response in diseases: A systems biology approach’ as a part of the India-Netherlands Collaborative Program, under the SPARC Scheme, MoE, GoI. Premas Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd. was the industry partner in the symposium. While Prof. (Dr) Anirban Chakraborty is the Indian PI of this project, Prof. Mihai G Netea from the University Medical Centre, Radboud University, The Netherlands is the foreign PI.

The formal inauguration was graced by Prof. Rabibrata Mukherjee, National Coordinator, SPARC Scheme & Professor at IIT Kharagpur along with other dignitaries that included Prof Mihai from the UMC Radboud, Prof. (Dr) Harsha Halahalli, Registrar and Prof. (Dr) M S Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor of Nitte DU. As a part of the inaugural program, a book on Immunity across the Life Span, edited by Prof. Anirban Chakraborty and Prof. Mihai G Netea, along with co-editors Dr. Vinod Kumar, Dr Mohana Kumar and Dr Krishna Kumar B was released by the dignitaries. The book is a collection of 10 chapters by eminent researchers around the globe focusing on how hos-pathogen interaction plays a crucial role in disease development.

On this occasion, the dignitaries symbolically unveiled the NitteDU - Radboud UMC Centre for Human Functional Genomics & Systems Immunology, a dedicated research initiative between the two universities, to be housed at NUCSER.

The symposium included an industry talk and 7 talks by eminent scientists from The Netherlands, Indonesia and India. The event witnessed a participation of more than 250 delegates including PG students, PhD scholars and faculty members from various institutions in and around Mangalore.
