News from KSHEMA | Vascular Anastomosis Hands-on Workshop

The Vascular Anastomosis Workshop, organised by Incīsiō, the Undergraduate General Surgery Club of KSHEMA, was held on 31st January 2026 at the NUMedsim Skills Lab, II Floor, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital. The session was conducted by Dr. Anup HS with assistance from Dr. K. Rahul Shenoy.

Designed for 20 undergraduate students from the 2021 & 2022 MBBS batches who had prior training in basic suturing and knot tying, the workshop aimed to build advanced skills in vascular suturing. The session began with a comprehensive overview of vascular anastomosis, including its types, indications, contraindications, complications and step-by-step technique. Participants were then divided into two groups and trained using simulated blood vessels made from canvas sheets, allowing them to practice vessel handling and precise suture placement in a controlled environment. Each student performed the procedure under close supervision, with additional guidance from trained club members. The interactive, hands-on format enabled participants to develop confidence and technical proficiency, supported by continuous feedback. The workshop concluded with a felicitation of Dr. Anup HS and a discussion session, with participants expressing high satisfaction and interest in future skill-based training.
