The Technical Club of Nitte Rukmini Adyanthaya Memorial Polytechnic organized its second session for the academic year 2025-26 on 12th August 2025 on the topic, titled “Cyber Security Threats and Vulnerabilities”. The event aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital era. Dr. Radhakrishna, Professor & Head, Computer and Communication Engineering, NMAMIT was the resource person for this session. He explained the concept of cybersecurity and its growing relevance due to the increasing dependency on digital platforms. He stressed the urgent need for securing data, networks and systems against malicious attacks that can lead to significant personal, financial, and organizational losses.
Dr. Radhakrishna elaborated on various types of cyber threats, including malware, phishing, ransomware, denial-of-service attacks and social engineering techniques. He highlighted common vulnerabilities such as outdated software, weak passwords and unsecured networks, which are often exploited by attackers. The explanation was supported with real-world examples, making the session engaging and relatable for the audience.
The session further covered best practices for preventing cyber threats, such as regularly updating software, using multi-factor authentication, encrypting sensitive information and raising awareness among users. The resource person emphasized the importance of adopting a proactive security approach and encouraged students to develop skills in ethical hacking and penetration testing to strengthen defence mechanisms.
The program concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where students clarified their doubts and discussed emerging trends in the field of cybersecurity. The event successfully enriched the participants’ understanding of cyber risks and the measures required to combat them.
